General tilt reel, flashing display
« on: June 01, 2015, 09:02:52 PM »
I recently purchased 2 s2000 machines a 5 star, and a 5xrwb I replaced main batteries removed Varta batteries, clear and keyed both. 5 star works flawless, RWB however is getting a bit frustrating. Plays fine then suddenly gets a general reel tilt, and occasionally the display goes off and on. Normally not at same time. I have gone through machine checking connections doing a optic bypass. Nothing has helped just keeps happening. any other suggestions? I'm  :banghead:  on this one...

General tilts can happen when the door is opened during play. I would check to see if the door optics are a little off and causing the machine to think the door is open. Lots of the cash can (bill stacker) doors still have optics on them too. The ribbon cable by the first reel isn't rubbing by chance is it? They are very close together when the door is closed. Also check the plugs that go to the displays for one on the bottom partly worn through.

You might also want to check your circuit board if the green battery has leaked out on to the board you might try removing it and cleaning the area.

I thought I mentioned they were slant tops, sorry about that...
I already removed big green battery on the board. they looked like they were starting to corrode. I cleaned area once removed, cash can has switch instead of optics. Display connectors look fine but I will double check. Door optics were check and a bypass was done(reversible if needed) still getting tilts. I did notice when changing the main battery, it looks like it has been done before and I think it was the ground side solder point was a bit iffy. But.. if it wasn't making contact I'm sure it would throw an error especially when turning it on.

You can bypass the cashcan switch by tying the wires together also. Sometimes that door doesn't need to move much and the switch opens. I've had them where pulling the handle flexed the cabinet and sprung the cash can door open enough to open that switch

Slant tops can be a pain.  The door hinges are awful, if you used them to snap a mouse trap the mouse will have had the peanut butter a week ago.  Take a plastic tie and tie shut the cash can switch.  Run it through the side and pull it tight over the switch.  You might want to check your cherry switches.  Hope this helps.  I have 6 slant tops and have used the tie on all, that does seem to work.

Since you have done a clear try going under accounting, security accounting, and see if any of the doors has an excesive amount of openings. If all else fails you might try swapping MPU's.

Ok checked doors open = 0. I tried playing till got error, finally came up, went into security accounting and it has # of games played, and no indication of any doors open. There should have been at least 2 I would think. Also while I was in accounting the machine did it's little display glitch and booted me out of the menu back to game.

There should be at least 3 different doors listed bill, main, card cage, make shore you check all of them. I could understand bill, card cage, drop door being at zero if they are spliced together but you should have several main door opens. I'm not shore if all software lists them the same you might also look under error accounting.

Ok, I think I found the problem. I swapped MPU and Reels over to 5 Star Machine, continued to get General reel tilt. swapped back reels and still got tilt. at one point trying to clear tilt, it wouldn't even finish off the spin without tilting. I'm thinking something wrong with MPU.

Just for kicks, check the voltage of the battery (the one in the corner, not the green one). Anything 2.8v or below can throw wacky errors.

Battery is 3.1v replaced when I got machine. I did however notice on under side of board when I replaced battery, it looked like it had been done before, but not very well. part of the board looks burnt if I remember correctly it was on negative lead side.

Probably the flux that's burnt, it will scrape off with a razor blade or small wire brush most likely. Check the area under where the green battery was really well and clean as neexed. May ultimately just be a bad board

Ok got it fixed. Replaced MPU, Base and Game chips.
After getting MPU I swapped out the chips, and wasn't paying attention and put GME chip in backwards, and it got real warm.
So ordered Base and GME chips got today. Installed(paying attention this time) All is well with the world now  :applause:
now just need reel strips 5xRWB if anyone has leads.
