Bally Black and White 5500 won't register credits when coins are inserted.

Hello, I have a Bally Black and White 5500 that was not working when I got it. It is a earlier version using the Jumper plug to do a saferam clear not chips. I replaced the battery and did a Complete SafeRam Clear. I ran thru Diagnostic Test 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,and 10 with no fault codes. Test 11 has all Game Optioning the number that is in the ( ). When I run Test 3 I put quarters thru the comparitor and 09 appears in the Credit Diplay and a port status 1. I know the comparitor works, meaning I can take a mix of coins and feed them thru and only the quarters go to the hopper and the rest go to the pay out tray.
The problem is no credits will register when I insert quarters.
Also not sure if this is part of the same problem or different but the Bill Validater does not work. It will not even try to take a bill in and validate it. The Validater is a DBV-200 which I believe is not original to this machine.

You've got 2 separate issues...

Coin Issue/No credit - Sounds to me like your coin optics are not working. Comparitor is doing its job just fine if it is kicking all but quarters out to tray.

Bill Validator - I do not know a lot about the older DBVs, but the validator has software that is specifically for a Bally machine or an IGT machine. Also, I "think" there are dip switches that need to be set appropriately for different machine manufacturers (Bally, IGT, etc). Pull it out and see if there are any indications of what software is in it. It is possible you have mismatched software for your machine.

The coins are not being seen as they pass through the optics. Under the comparitor is a set of optics circuit board with sender and receiver. Take the sandwiched assembly out and clean the holes in the black plastic block. Then clean the eyes on the circuit board with a damp clean cloth. And lastly in that assembly  there  is a small prism glass that needs all three sides  cleaned. While you have it out, check the plastic block coin guide and see if it is the proper size for the coin you are using. If the block is for Ike Dollar size coins and you are using Quarters the coin will not pass through the optics . Need a different plastic block if that is the case.

Cleaning the prism and eyes on the circuit board done the trick.
It is working, I will have to wait a while to look into the bill  validator.
My wife won't stop  playing it.
