I know for a FACT (well, like "Read it on the Internet, so it must be true, FACT") that ONE of our BELOVED members has indeed washed MPUs in the dishwasher...and was SUCCESSFUL!!!! Old site, either Coors or Cowboy, I believe, but I'm leaning towards Coors...
Roz,  I have something to say about that.  We need to not discuss this here further as this thread has been hi-jacked.  I am to blame for this. Much appoligies Air-balancer.  We will continue another rant somewhere else.  No one has issued a warning etc., I am issuing my own.

I have no problem with a hi-jack. Also, I have many other kitchen appliances available if need be.  :24:

I'm still waiting for a replacement sound amp board to arrive in the mail. I'll be sure to update this topic when it gets here.

I'm sad to report that I installed the new sound board and still have no sound.  :Scratch-Head:
Looks like I get to dive into this one a little more thoroughly now.

Did you look at the backplane/reeldriver board behind it yet. I have seen some get hot spots in them causing a continutity problem

Remove the amp board. Take a flash light and shine it on the backplane that the amp board plugs into. I think it is a resistor (not my book of worms) that burns and will leave burn marks that look like a pair of wings (above the resistor).

Here are some pictures of the sound board removed and looking back to the backplane where it plugs in, and just below. I'm wondering if I should just do a clear and set it up again and see if that does anything.  :Scratch-Head:

It would be where C39 is or the one below. It is not burnt and should be okay. I have only seen it once before so I am not sure which one it was. I know this is a dumb question but have you checked the volume setting?

I appreciate your thoughts on this. I have taken the audio settings up to ten and hear absolutely nothing. Even on a start-up I don't get the couple or three beeps that should happen while it boots.

This may be old news, from looking at the post dates on this topic....

But be sure to check your 24VDC line. The sound amp assembly has it's own regulating circuit which will "drop out" power to the amplifier IC if the incoming voltage gets too low. This prevents components from catching fire due to overheating (high amp draw) from cold solder joints and oxidized/poor connections, etc.

The 24VDC output of the "big metal box" power supply is shared by the stepper (reel) motors, sound amp, and light tube ballasts. Issues with any of those causing your voltage to drop (excessive load) would be where to look if your replacement amp assembly doesn't fix your problem.

FYI: simply unplug he INPUT connector at your light ballasts to eliminate the load from them. One OTHER thing to do, is to eliminate the possibility of a MPU output failure: Take your desktop computer speaker system, and plug it into the GREEN "audio out" plug of your slots MPU. If you now have sound through your computer speakers, that will confirm you have an audio amp OUTPUT problem and not an Amp INPUT issue from the Slot "brain box".

Hope this helps....

I plugged in some computer speakers I have and heard the game sounds. Then after plugging the machines audio cable back in... I'll be damned, the thing started making sounds again! I'm guessing the plug just needed a little adjustment?  :duh:
I'm thinking back to the old Walkman days having to sometimes spin the plug on your headphones to get the sound to work. In any case it looks to be back to normal!
Thanks FireBallJackpot for the tip!  :1:

Excellent!.  Also good job fireball.  Now balancer, As easy as that jack/connector is to get to I would have figured you would have unplugged it and plugged back in--- :arrowthruhead: .  Mark as topic solved-?  I say yes.  And at least you got yourself a spare amp board now---for when-- :burningresistor: .

The funny part is that I did indeed unplug it and plug it back in. I'm guessing since I tried the speakers it made me leave the jack dangling so when I put it back in it went in a little different and rotated? I have no idea, but it works so I'm happy.

Edited to add: I have marked this "topic solved"

No Problemo.   :nerd:

You have an "oxidized" audio plug (and port). Alas, the port is not accessible for cleaning, but you can use an alcohol wipe to clean the male plug, if the problem persists.

Kinda like the old days when the volume knob on your stereo "crackled" when you rotated the knob. Oh, by the way, DO NOT use any spray "cleaners" on the port. You will do more harm, than good. Spray cleaners have an oil lubricant which is designed for potentiometers and not signal jacks.

I am working in a casino that had a flood and the machines were under 2 metres of water for a week. When the water receded the boards were covered in thick mud and were stored for 6 months. When I came here I washed cpu boards in the sink and all the game software. So far I got 2  IGT Cleopatras working and used other games, boards and glasses for conversions.
