Touching up glass
« on: November 30, 2015, 08:48:18 PM »
I am trying to repair some scratches in the finish of my S+ glass. What is the best way to touch up scratches in the printing on the back side of the glass to prevent the light from shining through?  I was thinking of nail polish but I am worried that the acetone in the Polish will do additional damage. Has anyone found something better?

Sharpies do wonders!  I've used them plenty of times.

I was thinking of nail polish but I am worried that the acetone in the Polish will do additional damage.

Acetone is used in nail polish remover, not in the polish itself.  Might work??  I'd try it in an inconspicuous corner first to see if it covers or blotches.

Are you referring to a black solid background, mixed color printing or some other?  Scratches are different from flaking.  A picture might help?

I've tried sharpies on some pinball playfield inserts (I know, different) and found them to be too thin to block light.  On my Bally EM I used a Testors paint pen to cover worn spots in the opaque black background.  The key there was to reverse light the glass while applying the paint so I could see what it was actually masking (or not).

Yeah, I should have clarified.  The Sharpie paint pens do a great job.  Standard sharpies will still allow light through.

The scratch goes all the way thru the white background and into the black print on the glass.

Toss a piece of electrical tape on the back seeing the background is black. That may be an easy 'so-so' fix.. I've done it, but don't tell.   :cool_thumb_up:

Those line don't appear to be scratches as much as gouges?  Why do they stop exactly at the lettering?  Is it because the shots are that close?

He's showing the topmost thin line above those lines you mention, 2nd pic. Not the 2 coming off the lettering.

Herd it's a good game, still waiting for the reel glass. Hope it comes this week. Think I'll try the electrical tape first as I don't think it should do any additional damage. If it doesn't hold up I'll go for the paint marker.
I appreciate all of the help. Thanks.
