When you close and latch the door, does the LED display with the 21 go blank for a few seconds and return, or does it remain on?

If it's not going blank when you close the door, your machine is not seeing the door as closed.

so it may be optics not working ?
Yes

out of adjustment ?
Possibly, although that's generally not a common problem on an S+.

Can the optics be taken out?
Yes, they're held in by screws.  If you're asking if they can be bypassed, yes, it's possible, but I never recommend it on an S+.  If your optics aren't working, it's generally inexpensive to buy a replacement working set.

The other thing to look for is to make sure that the bill validator stacker door (the "cash can" door) is closed and latched, or that the wires that go to that cherry switch are shorted together to bypass that switch.  If that switch is open, the machine will never see the door as closed.

Did you clear the machine?
Sometimes that is the only way to get rid of that code

Check you key switch, make sure the door is closed and latched all the way.
If it was the 61 loop the 61.1 would have changed back to 61

Make sure the door is latched all the way. When it sticks it's a 61 error. If it still reads 61-1 it hasn't read the door shut yet. Check the cash can door also. It can read an open door.

A 61-1 that will not clear needs a clear chip. No worries, as all functions return to factory, EXCEPT for the bill validator, which needs a SET chip. Order the Clear and SEt as a set and save some $$$.

Some 61 errors are just hard to clear, others get stuck in the stupid loop when the key is turned before the rest button is pushed. A clear will take care of it.

Generally speaking, please start a new thread for a different machine with a different issue.   :propeller:
