TITO Installation Disaster!
« on: March 05, 2022, 12:11:58 PM »
I just recently purchased two TITO systems from TITOathome.com and followed the directions to a T for the installation for a S2000 which is very basic and when I powered the machine up to key it I never got the two lights and the machine didn’t come on at all. All the lights flickered but I never got the two amber lights. So I thought I would try and clear then key again but had the same results. The machine is completely dead now even when I tried another board. Has anyone had these issues?

Well, there seems to be more to this. But to start, did you try to key the machine with 0 credits on it? It won’t let you with anything on the credit meter.

Edit: I see now what you meant by completely dead.

There were no credits in the machine. That still wouldn’t prevent from the machine not at least powering on. I tried swapping the power supply from my other machine and that didn’t fix my problem. The machine won’t even power the over head light in the upper compartment.

Sounds like you have some sort of short.  Unplug the TITO board's power.  If it still doesn't come up, then I would unplug anything that uses power one at time until the cabinet lights up again.

Not really sure how to add a pic but in the back plane where the power cord plugs in there is this TRANSPOWER unit on the inside. I compared the voltage to my other machine and the suspect bad machine has 120vdc on the upper brown wire and 0vdc on the lower blue connector. The good machine has 61.2vdc on both the blue and brown wires. I’m not sure if this is my problem but it’s something different to the other machine. Below is the P/N and info to the TRANSPOWER.

So I’m guessing but could it be the power Distribution box?

My x-ray SUPERvision is broken today...could you post a picture  :Take_a_Photo: of what you're talking about?

Maybe we can spot something?  :sherlock:

Check and see if the power supply (unit with all the holes in it) behind the reel shelf is loose.

Here’s an image of the power Distribution box.  I swapped the PDB with my other unit and it did not resolve anything.

What the hell is this ac plug for in the bottom of your machine? Is that going to the TITO power wires? Your TITO is powered by the 13V  connector on top of the dist box. I was wondering why you was referring to the 120vac connectors earlier.

That's just an AC line filter, it shouldn't cause any of the issues you have. I still think you have a short somewhere and you should start to isolate the short like I stated above.  If you wish to not follow my standard troubleshooting workflow, then I will just bow out of this conversation.

This is what I am talking about. Is it an illusion or is it connected to the TITO power wires?

I just bought this TITO. I installed it per the sellers procedure:

Plug the 3 pin plug into the small plug on the side of the communication board next to the 2 pin
connector. This will supply power to your board. This connection is always on, so I suggest connecting
the machine to a power strip and turning off the machine at the power strip when not in use to make
sure the board is not on 24 hours a day when not in use. If your cable came with a USB power plug,
connect the power plug to a USB port or the supplied A/C to USB power brick to get power. Connect the
5 pin connector to the front of the communication board to the 5 pin plug.

I see now it is a USB 5v power cube which is fine. I don't use those because the TITO remains hot when the machine is powered off unless you rewire that ac plug on front of the dist box for switched power rather than unswitched.

So now the machine does not power up at all, no lights on the MPU, no upper lights. I tried swapping both the power supply and the PDB with my other machine and had the same results. Kind of lost of where to go next.

I think the newest version of the TITO @ Home board is now using USB power rather than grabbing power from the back plane or cabinet.

Kooper06,

In the earlier message you described measuring the power at the Filter, blue and brown wires. What you are measuring is 120 VAC, not VDC. One of these wires is the hot, the other neutral. You need to measure across these two wires with your multimeter set to the AC scale.

I would start by tracing your AC power. Do you have 120 vac at the main switch ? Check connections and make sure the switch isn't bad. Next check for 120 vac at the power supply.

I stand corrected, I know better than that about the vdc/vac. Dumb, dumb! (Me). Agree about the 120vac but when I do a comparison to the other filter it’s reading 60.6 at both the brown/blue wire to ground. I do the same check at the bad machine and its has the 120 only at the brown. It makes sense about one being the neutral and the other power. I would assume that it goes from there to the power supply but I’m not sure if it’s through the same wire. Is there a schematic to these systems? Also it seems like this is acting like a blown fuse. Is there a fuse in the system that would create these issues. I checked the relay in the PDB and it rang good. I appreciate your invite on this and anyone else that may have seen these issues and my broaden my knowledge I would appreciate it. I’m new to these machines and know that there is a pleather of knowledge on NLG!

Rick I disconnect everything I could think of yesterday to include the printer, bill Validator and VFD with the same results. I’m new to this and I’m not sure what else needs to be disconnected. Again I truly appreciate your help along with everyone else!

Update:
1 - Checked for voltage at the power switch from the PDB 0 vac.
2 - Continuity checked good from the PDB to power switch.
3 - Disconnected bill Validator, VFD, credit panel and just about anything else that made sense that may be causing a short, no luck.
4 - Swapped power supply with known good unit
5 - Swapped Power Distribution box with known good unit
