Remove Adhesive From S2000 Chrome
« on: March 20, 2024, 04:00:01 AM »
My S2000 had the long black decal with all the bills it accepts on the door. I need to replace it, so I removed the existing one. However, it has left the entire adhesive and other little gunk on the door. I've just been using my fingernail, but this is just gonna be a giant waste of time. What should I do to remove the adhesive without damaging the chrome? Thank you.

Drummond Quick Peel biodegradable or Citrus Goo Gone works best.

The 2 cleaners mentioned above are great, and environmentally friendly, but acetone or MEK will work the fastest. Just don't get it on the plastic parts.

But yes, any products that claim to remove adhesive residue will work just fine with a little effort. Even WD-40 can remove a lot of it.

I picked up some Goo Gone earlier. Here's how it went. Blocked off the surrounding areas with paper towels and tape to get as little splatter as possible. I would spray it... but really... I should've had a squeegee or something because guess what? My fingernail became involved again. 1 hour and 40 minutes later, between spraying and fingernailing, with no music or anything playing in the background... just pure focus... the treated area is now spotless, beautiful, smooth, and shiny. 100% of the residue is gone after a thorough rub with a washcloth and further inspection with my phone's flashlight. Just beautiful!

I could've tried acetone, but the plastic notice concerned me. Luckily, this issue is now behind me.

That sticker label has a LOT of adhesive...it's painstaking work... :rotfl:
I would of used a guitar pick instead of fingernails? lol
If you decided to go with acetone, you would of had to cover up the deck buttons, and remove the two screws from the back of the black plastic bill bezel to get that off.
Not really that hard to do, but it's also hard to find a small amount of acetone....they usually only come in pint-sized cans.
I've had a can of acetone here at work since like 1992....lol

The absolute best thing for this is 3m adhesive remover and a razor blade scraper. This is got to be the worst adhesive to remove and will take several attempts even with the 3m stuff. Oh don't go into sticker shop when you see the cost of it but it's worth it.

A LOT OF ADHESIVE! Right, well, the closest I've come to a guitar pick was playing Guitar Hero III on my PlayStation 2 lol. Yah, I didn't want to risk masking everything off and having to take that extreme level of precaution. Your acetone is a 90's kid!

Here ya go!

Oh no, a razor blade. Maybe the 3M branded adhesive remover would've worked, I can't tell ya at this point. But speaking from first-hand experience here... THIS WAS A NIGHTMARE.  :duh:

To anybody who needs to do this at some point during your slot machine ownership... be prepared for an awful time. I'm rooting for you... you got this pal!  :dancing_2:

 :agreepost:

Pretty good deal for these decals.

I, unfortunately, did not realize the decal I ordered is missing the $1 and only says $5 and above. But now... I have no problem just leaving the door as-is without a decal. If I ordered the right one, I probably would've used it. But had I removed the adhesive prior to considering ordering a new decal... I still would've just left it alone.
