Reset Jackpot wins-handpay/clear credits

Hello,
I am working on an S+ that is giving me fits for many reasons...but while testing i hit a lower jackpot but way more that i have quarters. Yes, i know i can cycle a few times to get it to clear, and have read i can remove the CMOS chip to clear credits.

My question is, as i have never really wanted to clear credits before but i am testing out a few previous errors, how did they do it in a casino? Did they pull the boards when people hit hand pays? I thought the jackpot key can be used and the slot attendant would just pay you at the machine? I am not seeing a process in the forums on how to do that.

They absolutely did not remove the MPU board to clear credits off of a machine in a casino.

Most machines were set up to have a credit and hopper limit of 400 coins for large tokens ($1, $5, etc.), and 1,000 coins for quarters or nickels.

The machine would pay out up to the above limits from the hopper. Any single win in excess of the established limit would cause the machine to go into a jackpot/handpay condition.

For example on a quarter machine, let's say you have 60 credits on the meter and spin and hit a large payout worth 2,000 coins. The machine will lock up, the candle lights will flash, the speaker will ding repeatedly, and the display will alternate between showing the 2,000 coin handpay and the 60 credits remaining on the meter. Once the attendant turns the jackpot reset key switch (and hand pays you your $500 win), the machine will unlock and your 60 credits will remain on the meter to be played or cashed out via the hopper.

Certain S+ GAME (SP) chips permit for separate hopper and credit limits. With these chips, it would be possible to set a credit limit at 9999 coins, but a hopper limit of zero coins. As such, you could run a bunch of credits up on the meter, but when you press the Cash Out button, the machine will go into a handpay mode similar to the jackpot handpay mode described above.

Most casinos didn't do that setup as it would require an attendant to have to hand pay every cash out request.
