S2000 no display after "display passes self test" message
« on: March 03, 2024, 02:40:21 PM »
I have an S2000 that upon turning it on displays " display passes self test" then goes out...bv cycles, reels spin from right to left and then does nothing...no buttons, no display..can't access the menu to do I/O tests...
I have changed the power supply, both I/O cards, the MPU, the display controller, the display, the ribbon cable from controller to the display with the same results...I have also reseated all connections on the backplane and looked for broken or pinched wires...
Anyone have any ideas? The only thing I think I've not replaced is the backplane...

The VFD is on the netplex bus along with the bill validator, and ticket printer.  Sometimes the progressive is on it too if so equipped.   A failure of any one of those devices can interrupt netplex communications and cause that error.  I'd remove the bill validator from the housing and disconnect the ticket printer and try it again.

Just FYI the I/O cards are for SENET devices and wouldn't cause problems with the NETPLEX bus.

Good to see more people actually helping diagnose these issues than just telling people to replace parts. Good job. Net plex and senet errors are some of the most anomaly to deal with.

Thanks Tilt...
The printer was the problem child...
The display didn't work at all so I replaced the display controller and got the the display to work but only the display test passed, then it would go blank again, the reels wouldn't spin and the bv would cycle but no buttons or displays...at that point I wasn't sure if I had a Senet or a Netplex issue...I changed the io cards, the display itself and the ribbon cable...same issue...I then disconnected the bv and forgot all about the printer...
I finally disconnected the printer and it booted up but with mb door, printer network and B door errors which I couldn't get to clear.
Check belly switch and door optics...all good.
I then cleared and keyed the MPU and that eliminated those errors but my 5-5-2 display was still out...turned out to be a bad display...

Thanks again for the response...

Glad you got your no Disp error fixed  :applause:  Glad to help.   Sounds like the machine had a few bugs in it, but one by one you got them fixed, good job!

Another FYI, Door Open B means the machine sees the bill validator door as being open.  The belly door switch is in series with the door optics, so if the belly door is open you'll get a Door Open M error just like you will with the main door open.
