no problem, wish I was more familiar with your machine.

Ok, here is something to try, one way or the other it will prove something. Getting into the Test mode is pretty easy, you just open the main door and press the Test button, it is located on the front of the mpu board tray. (the mpu is the main logic board, the "computer" board in the machine).

Each time you press it the machine will advance to the next test and the display will show you what test number you are on. That way you can quickly go to the test you want to do. If you want to repeat the same test you press the CHANGE button. Try doing test number 4 and then test 5, that is for the hopper and the reels. This will see if they are working or not. Make sure there are tokens in the hopper, the hopper test will cause it to payout 10 tokens. You will have the door open when doing this, watch that no one puts their hands in where they can get hurt.

.....Is there a way to reset the entire game without destroying the game?

Maybe so, can you post a photo of the inside of your machine with the main door open, showing the front of the mpu tray so I can see the buttons, lites or whatever is there? Thanks!

I found a drawing of it but can't tell which are pushbutton switches and which are lites. Is there a pushbutton for RESET on the front of the mpu tray? If so, try pressing the RESET button, then after a few seconds close the main door and see what happens. Maybe that will clear any fault condition that is not a hard fault.

Can you post a pic of the inside bottom where the coin hopper is located. Also to the left of the hopper there is a toggle switch for  the power . Under the toggle switch is the circuit breakers. All 4 white buttons should be in and flush. If any are sticking out push it in to reset it.

Does the machine cycle (reels spin)   when you turn the power back on ? With the door open on the right hand side is a White plunger type switch. With the door open pull out on the plunger , the machine should cycle and should be ready to accept tokens. Let us know what it does.  Also try a different token in the comparitor.

Ok, I did a little investigating with my own 5500 and this is what I found. The messages on your display mean the following - PD 2 means that the machine awarded 2 credits on the last spin. COL 142 means that the cash out button was pressed and the machine paid 142 coins to the tray. They are both normal messages from what I see and are not error codes. The 2 decimal points simply indicate the door has been opened. The machine should be ready to play but since it won't accept coins  there are only 2 possibilities that I can think of. 1) the coin mechanism switch on the front of the mpu is turned off. Check to be sure it is switched up in the on position. 2) The door optic doesn't know the door is closed. With the door open the bottom light of the candle should be lit. When you close the door the light should go out, if it doesn't then the machine thinks the door is still open and all normal gameplay is suspended.

Thank you so much.....   The machine is now working.    After reading your suggestions and playing with it, it appears to be an issue with the coin acceptor.  The red light was not coming on.   Not sure what the issue was, but I put in a new coin (as suggested), and played with the connectors and presto... it now works.

the self tests turned up fine - no issues.

Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.
If you ever have any pinball questions, I'm sure I can assist with that...

Thanks again.
