Video problem......HELP!!!!!!
« on: June 15, 2024, 02:49:19 AM »
New guy here,

I've come to the conclusion that info for these 903/904 boards are scarce at best.  I've also concluded that there are some talented people here that might be able to help me out.

I picked up a home/early arcade double up poker rig for next to nothing.  No coin hopper.  They guy I got it from said the crt was dead, and his "friend" was in the process of converting it to lcd.

I got the crt working, minus the screen burn.  I'll do a tv tube swap after I get this game working.  I simply removed his converter board, and spliced on a molex connector for the chasis.

Working crt.

Here's a few pics of the board and the game.  There is no mention of omega, any form or board number, only a qc stamp on the board. No data plate, model number, nothing on the cabinet, other than a sticker(pic below)  From the stickied 2 pages of schematics from this forum, I've applied my best guess that this is a early 903. (???)

The game plays blind(ish), as I can make out cards and the buttons all work.  I'm unable to make out any info from the test screen.  The first 3 discard buttons at the same time exit test mode.

The screen is saturated in blue/green.  The color pots on the board have little effect.  The horizontal sync mostly ineffective.  If I adjust the horz on the monitor, I can sort of see it.  The picture is half a frame off of center.

There was a burned trace on the solder side of the board that lands on the h sync pin (yellow (I think it was)).  I soldered a jumper, and did a continuity check all the way to the sw2 dip switch.

The caps look fine, but I know that doesn't mean much.  I'll order new ones.  The 1/2AA battery holds a charge.  The voltage pot will cause the board to blank when turned full counter clockwise.  I removed all chips and applied Deoxit to the sockets and chip pins.  no noticeable effect.

Can anyone help guide me through the video output circuit?  Without a schematic to work from, it like driving blind.  Or if anyone still works on these, I'd consider shipping the board out.

I was wanting to ship this to my dad for fathers day, as he's a video poker junkie, but that's not going to happen by tomorrow...........

Thanks, Mike

I had one of those CEI games in a cabinet just like that. same thing, I couldn’t find anything wrong.

Mine turned out to be one of the connectors on the back board. I had to remove and replace it several times to wipe the oxidation off, deoxit helped but didn’t fix it without the swiping. Those pins have a long history of problems related to oxidation. Also, those pots on the board are suspect.

If you think the game board is at fault Im pretty sure K-Lar has a test station for those.

One other note, does your monitor have red? Im guessing it does because it has white, but something about the colors is off. Maybe you need to invert the colors on the tpg?
Is it a WG?

Chris

The tpg produces all of the reds blues greens ok. The chassis is fine plugged into another game.   I suspected the color wires from the board to the chassis might have gotten swapped around during the previous owner's shenanigans converting to lcd, but I was able to trace from the rgb pots on the board to the fingers, and ultimately to the chassis, and they look right.  I'm going to recap the few electrolytic caps on the board, and the pots.  I hope it helps, but I'm not terribly optimistic on that.

I did reflow every solder spot, finger, continuity checked every trace(And jumpered across the bad).  I will pull all of the chips again and try to get in the sockets a little better.  I feel like that is most likely the root cause of the partial card graphics missing.  i'll do that after the caps and battery, and pots.

The horizontal position and sync are what I really need to figure out.  Are the 903(assuming what I have is indeed a 903) boards laid out the same or similar enough to the 2 drawings that are floating around here of the 904?

These are the only 2 drawing that I've found.  If anyone has more info, I'd gladly accept it.

If I were to find a 904 board.  Would i be able to just swap in the roms and play? or are there game differences/functions between the two?  I don't need coin hopper outputs or bookkeeping functions like the casino models.

If anyone can ID exactly what board i have, Beer is on me.  Add in the schematics, a lot of beer is on me!! :applause:

I'm not a circuit designer, and reverse engineering this by looking up every chip p/n and studying the circuit is more than I want to take on.  I like a challenge, but let's be reasonable.  lol.

Sorry I can’t answer your questions regarding compatibility. You might want toread some of the informational posts in the CEI category.
Just my opinion, If you are willing to buy a new/used board why not send yours for repair by a professional? That way you know it works, the test bench will test every function of the board including video.

Chris

do you have any good shop recommendations?  I'm not opposed to this.

I know K-Lar has a test station. You can find their contact information on the home page of NLG.
They might even have some suggestions to try on the video issue.
Sorry, I thought I mentioned them before.
