Game King 3902 error on boot
« on: February 15, 2020, 01:23:13 PM »
Hi,

I'm trying to restart a Game King 3902.

At startup I have an error message that I cannot delete.

The start of the clear ram procedure is going well but when I put the Base chip back in place I get the following error message:

Processor will automatically restart upon completion of download

I never see the message "RAM error" from the precursor of clear ram.

Thanks !

Can you post a picture of the MPU board?  Try to get close enough to read the software version numbers on the  game eproms or flash board as well.

Hello,

The game installed is UNICORN with Base I0000743.

I don't have the machine at home, and I don't have the CGF number who's under the MMLB.

That's pretty odd.  I don't need the CGF SIMM number, it will be the same as the PXLs.

How did it get into to this point?  Were you installing new software on a board or the message just popped up out of the blue?  Do you have a keychip for it?

Hello,

A friend collected this machine and it was not working.

The Base chip had 2 broken legs and the previous owner had tried to resolder them without succeeding. Has the heat damaged the Base chip?

I managed to solder new legs on the chip, but I am not sure that the previous owner did not reverse the direction of the chip... :Scratch-Head:

I do have a KeyChip.
I can do the procedure described here (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=883.0) by going to point 18 -> Power down your machine, remove the board, and replace the Key chip with your original game chip. Make sure it is put back in the correct direction.

Then I never get the RAM Error message from point 19 -> Turn the machine. After awhile an alarm will sound via the speakers and you will see the message "RAM error". Turn your jackpot key twice at this time. The machine will continue the boot process.

The machine displays the blue screen in photo with the message:
Processor will automatically restart upon completion of download

Ok thanks for the background information.

I think the base chip is probably OK, but let's try this.  If you have a removable coin cell battery pop it out and put it back in.  If it's soldered on then remove one of the RAM chips.  They are the black IC's in sockets by the GME EPROMs.  It doesn't matter which one.  Just remove one and put it back in.  Removing power from the RAM chip (either by removing the battery or popping it out of it's socket) will cause it to lose its stored contents.  Then when you power up the machine you should get a RAM error and hopefully get rid of the download message.
