s igt slot

I just picked up a s igt slot and know nothing about them, I have worked on the s+ machines and have made out pretty good but this s  machine does nothing no displays or any thing where do I start and which are the game and reel chips on the board ? they are no marked  thanks

An S machine has the board mounted in the back and has three connectors going to it.  make sure everything is plugged in, check the fuses near the on/off switch. 
the S machine only uses one chip, SSXXXX,  no SP chip for this platform.

do any lamps come on anywhere?

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I checked the fuses all good, connectors all tight, no displays and no buttons light up just the florescent lights , I didn't check the battery yet but was thinking maybe a bad transformer???  You say no sp chip ? what is the game chip and where is it on the board? and can you use a clear chip in this? Thanks for the help

U58 (27C128 EPROM) is the combined game/reel chip.  It should have a RSXXXX number on it.  A bad battery (unless it leaked all over the place) wouldn't cause the problem you're having.  It would set an error 12 in the display like the S+.  Transformers don't normally go bad.  Do the reels energize or are they free spinning when the power is on?  I'm not aware of a clear chip for the S slot.  If there is, I haven't needed one yet, and I've had my machine for 25 years.

Thanks again for a reply. Like I said there is no display so no #12 there is no battery damage and the reels do not lock up when powered up they are free spinning ? I really don't know where to look for the problem? any other thoughts? Thanks

I'd pull the MPU out and inspect it for any visible signs of damage, burnt components, traces, etc.

To clear a S Slot remove the RAM chip and short it's legs all at once on a piece of bare metal for about 30 seconds.
Upon power up after the clear you will get a 61, just press the self test button to get the board to boot up.

No life on the boards usually points to a burnt pin or connector where the on tray transformer plugs in or a bad Vcc or Vb component.
