S2000 Died while sitting
« on: March 04, 2017, 02:52:34 PM »
Hi folks I need help again. My S2000 has set unplugged since Christmas,it was working fine at that time. I plugged it in yesterday, the upper and belly lights come on, I have nothing working on my Credit/coins in display. I have a fast flash on my lower candle, an I have what I would take to be a medium flash on the upper candle. I have tried to reset with  my inside button and it makes no difference. I  have read that a fast lower candle flash is an open door, or door sensor not working properly. I dont think this is my case due to the fact that when I open the door, it starts giving an alarm sound, and stops when i latch the door back. the lower door switch has been wired around, and when i unplug the harness, it trips the alarm also. as always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Start by checking the battery, the coin size one, on the MPU

Do i need to check voltage with it  unsoldered, or leave it in place ?  With it still on the board it shows .1852 volts, so i would say its pretty much dead

Batteries check either way, but replace that one and see where it gets you. You will need to do ram error resets using the jackpot reset key

Very easy. Make sure power is off before removing or installing MPU. After battery is replaced, open door and you will see messages about ram etc. Turn JP key 3 times and it will say hold button on MPU for 3 seconds then close and latch the door. If your not comfortable soldering, Battery plus stores will do it for you.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

And don't be surprised if you have to go through that ram clear process twice

LOL I never luck out and have anything take the first time, I always have to do it more than once. And the soldering is a no problem deal for me, I have 2 or 3 soldering guns and pencils, and some rosin core solder

The first  thing I do when we get one into the shop that has a dead button cell is to un-solder it and put in a button cell socket so the next time the battery goes dead you simply pop it out and slip in a new one. Something to think about if you leave the machine off for long periods of time.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

OK finally had a chance to get a battery and solder it in, I have no change in my symptoms, still have the flashing candles, and no display in any of the displays on front, the only time the readouts do anything is when i first turn the machine on, I will get a a split second number in one or two of the readouts and then it goes back blank. Ideas?

Probably a dumb response but make sure you didn't put a battery in backwards.

Also, behind the reels is a power supply, make sure it is shoved (shove right) into its socket very firmly.
For some reason those power supplies like to walk out of their connector.

Sorry about the slow reply, I have been busy with other projects, I actually got it back up and running not long after my last post. I actually had to do the reset a few times, but it finally took. Then I loaned a friend my MPU to troubleshoot his machine that had went dead, he gave it back today, so I had to do the reset again, and he now needs a new board for his. Thanks for all the help and suggestions
