Alice Tea Party Won't boot

Hi
 I am working on my first Transmissive Reel BB. I cleared the machine and started it with the operating system. It gets to Pre Partitions Read - IO Error and sits there. Any ideas? Could this be a bad CF card?

try another game and see if the error goes away, if it does, then yes bad cf card.

You can load a standard video title on a transmissive cabinet.  Just load one up to test.

I've been messing with this for a while now. I didn't know you could load a non transmissive game. Any way, I used Gorilla Chief since it had the same operating system (SSSG-1673) AS Tea Party. It let me install the game, set it up and play it, only thing while playing, the reels kept up that dot dot type of spin constantly.


So now I have a known working machine and OS. I cleared it, put in the Tea Party CF, it got a lot farther than before but stopped at this screen. My bet is a bad game card? What do you think?

What ^^^^ said.

You can stop the reels from spinning if you just pull the power plug from the reel controller board that is mounted under the reels.  It is an 8 pin molex plug if I'm not mistaken.  There are 2 molex plugs that are connected, one has red/black wires that power the fan, the other one is the power plug.

I've always used the transmissive games with an OLED button panel.  If you have an OLED button panel, it will work.  Also there's a video version of Alice and a stepper version of Alice, you need to make sure you are getting the stepper version.  The games are the same, other than one uses the mechanical reels and the other one just uses video to represent them.

I did not know there are 2 versions of this game. I assume they have different #'s to tell apart. Do you have the # of the stepper version and the operating system that goes with it.? That is the one I need and I want to make sure I'm getting the right one. Did they make 2 versions for all the transmissive games?

There are two versions of Alice for Video and Transmissive stepper.  Not all steppers got the video treatment.  Alice is the only one that comes to mind for class III.   Some class II jurisdictions got video versions of some steppers, but you can't use those at home.

Do they both utilize the top box correctly? Or is it sideways because the originals had large vertical monitors?

The originals did not have large vertical monitors.  They had a tiny monitor inside an animator box.  The monitor is the little "Mirror" in the middle.

Yes, the animator box is the same, the only difference is the glass on it, the other says Tea Party.
