G23 Convert to MLD panel?
« on: December 31, 2020, 07:59:33 PM »
Picked up a G23 with non mld panel in it. Is it as simple as getting a 23 inch MLD panel? (I know they are pricey).

Also, top panel is an ugly TFT, Amy recommendations for an IPS LCD panel for that one?

My G23 has a 22" MLD lower panel.  I'm an AVP newbie, so I don't know if they made a 23" lower MLD panel or not.  Take a look at the upper and lower bezel.  If the upper is larger than the lower by an inch then your lower is a 22" too.  If it's a 23" then I would think you'd need a new door bezel too unless there is a 23" MLD panel.  Rick or one of the others with more experience will chime in I'm sure.

My upper panel is a Kortek KTL230S-07.  Not sure if it's TFT or IPS but it looks great.

If you upgrade to MLD, you could move your main display to the top.  I believe it is just a swap to mld display, my MLD is also 22 inches.  I believe they are all the same.

Cool, thanks Rich. Bottom display looks larger than the top, but I will measure next time I’m out there.

Thanks for the help guys.

No problem.  My lower is a KTL220MD-03 with V2.7 paran firmware (not sure if that matters or not).  I've also seen KTL220MD-04 out there but I don't know what the difference is between the -03 and -04.

I have replaced a 03 with an 04.  Can't tell any difference in them.

I was thinking about cleaning up the fog behind the touch screen on my lower panel of the G23.  It doesn't look easy to do that.  It looks like the door has to be removed. Also, looks like the front of door has to be disassembled  to get the monitor out.   Advice would be appreciated.   Thanks.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

I've done it to a pair of machines.  It is relatively easy, just takes time.  The monitor is attached to the metal bezel, so the monitor with the bezel all comes out through the front.  So you basically have to remove the bezel assembly from the door and pull the whole thing out through the front of the door.  You will need to disconnect all the harnesses from the front door as the entire fascia comes out.  There are a bunch little nuts in the bottom area where the player tracking stuff is, around the buttons for the cashout/service and the bill entry area. Then there are 4 medium sized brass screws, 2 on each side that hold the assembly to the door.  If it is not clear, I will go take photo and circle what needs to be undone.

Once you pull out the assembly, set the monitor face down on a flat surface, remove the side screws that hold the monitor to the bezel and the monitor should pull out.  The touchscreen is on a frame  that is held on by further screws if I'm not mistaken. Flip the monitor over and pull the touchscreen frame up and to the side.  If you just put it on the side, you probably don't need to disconnect the touchscreen cable, but you may need to undo the screws for the plate that protects it.  Be careful with the lcd  since there's no barrier that protects the lcd at this point.  If you want to clean the lcd as well be careful that liquid does not seep in between the dual lcd panels (I used a lens cleaner solution with a lint free cloth to get rid of the gunk).  It is almost impossible to get all the dust particle that seems to get attracted to the screen during the procedure.  There's an old trick that I use whenever I put screen guards on my cel phones.  I go into a bathroom, turn on the hot water to produce steam.  The steam removes the dust particles from the environment and you get a dust free install, but I didn't do this in this case.  I figure I could live with a couple of dust particles.

Thanks, this is good info.  Will give it a go.  This info should be made into a HOW TO sticky for those who want to do it.

Well, I got the new monitor in and I dunno - this doesn't seem like it will work. The power connector is different for one.

I went with the KTL220MD-03

Here are some pics (tried to upload, but the forums are always meh on pics haha).
