SMLD Dynamic Button Issues No Cash Out or Service
« on: January 03, 2021, 05:09:24 PM »
I've got an SMLD cabinet that has a non-edgelit dynamic button panel that seems to work ok as far as the OLEDs go, but the problem I'm having is the Cash Out, Bet One Credit and Service buttons are all inop.

On some games they light up, but they become the Max Bet and Repeat the Bet buttons. Service button is dead always.  On other games, they just stay dark and will not function at all.

I've swapped around the connectors on the backside, it doesn't change much of anything other than the Bexlt Max and Bet One, the Service button remains inop. In the Diagnostic Menu it shows the buttons working as I press them, but they're not labled like in a Game King as Cash Out and so on. They're just assigned a number. So that doesn't help me any.

Is there a way to program the static buttons? Until this is resolved, I've got no way to cash out credits on the machine.

And I don't understand why they illuminate on some themes and not others.

Thanks,

Curtis ash100

You need to understand the way we are using these machines is not the way casinos use them.  They don't have 30 titles mixed and matched to your liking.  They deploy the machine in such a way that the button panels match the game.  Some games will use the bet one/max bet buttons, others won't, it's as simple as that.  IGT will bundle the games to be installed on a machine knowing this in advance, and thus they would never install games that use a different layout.  You probably need to setup the dip switches in order to enable the cash-out/service buttons.  I'm not 100% sure as I only have a G20 and a G23 and they have dedicated cashout/service buttons in a different area.

Thank you for the reply Rick,

I just find it odd that the Service and Cashout buttons wouldn't be always active no matter what game is installed. They are hardwired Static Buttons just like the 20 and 23, just happen to be on the deck instead of above it.

And I understand completely that we're doing things as home users that aren't normal casino ops and we bundle our game packages as we wish instead of using IGT compatibility tables and so forth.

Now, is there any type of documentation that shows how to configure the dip switches for certian features/functions for the 3 or 5 Non-Dynamic Buttons? The Dynamics all work with their intended games and display the correct images, it's the statics that seem to be locked out.

The machine originally came with Game King 8.3 with it's correct OS, so those buttons should have been configured correctly to begin with. I deleted that software and changed the OS to make it a multi-slot game. That's probably where it went wrong.

Today I wiped everything and configured it back to GK 8.3. I still can't get the Cashout and Service Buttons on line.

I have a duplicate cabinet/game and checked all of my switches and software, they're identical. The second cabinet works as it should.

So I must have deleted any special programming that was put in place to operate with that game and panel configuration. If any existed.

Still stumped. So any additional information on configuring buttons is welcome.

Thanks,

Curtis ash100

The button panels on gameking cabinets are not 100% compatible with all slot games. It depends on what is flashed on the blackfin firmware.  I helped a wholesaler once where the button legends on the OLED panels all said HOLD, or GOOD Luck (or something similar).  I changed the blackfin controller and it fixed the issue.  You may have something similar going on.  Do you know what firmware is flashed on your blackfin controller?

The firmware is BFB0004. I know there are higher numbers out there, so maybe I need to upgrade and figure out the dip settings from there.

Appreciate the link and help.

Hello!

I think I have the same button panel as you on my SMLD AVP.  I've included a picture.

The "Service" button light only lights when I press/request "Service", so you can toggle the light (and candle) by pressing it on/off.

"Cash Out" lights when game not in play.

"Bet One Credit" sometimes lights depending on the game.  Not always on/available.  And often it seems to be a max bet or repeat bet, not a bet one.  I don't really ever use it so I never really paid attention to it.

I know my dips are set to:

7 switch DIP on HDMI to Flex Cable board
1 ON, 2-7 OFF

4 switch DIP on the blackfin? board
All OFF

I will check my firmware version and post again later.

Is the blackfin firmware the "Dynamic Button Panel" under "Device Version Check"?

If so, mine says:

BFDB0004.BIN2009-07-20

Thanks for the inputs and pictures.

I tried my set up like the photos shown, only gives a panel configuration error and the buttons all flash CSDA. That is with dip 1 on, all others off. I put my small board back to what it was, dip 2 on, all others off and it no longer tilts.

All of the OLED buttons say what they're supposed to based on the game being played.

In the Diagnostic menu I have the option to select the function of buttons 16 (Cash Out) and 10 (Bet 1 Credit), but neither have a Cash Out option. Those 2 buttons work, but only as Max Bet and Repeat the Bet, as they are set up in the options menu.

The Service button doesn't even register in the Button/Light Test Page. That is where I discovered the other 2 button numbers. So pressing Service will not illuminate a light or toggle a switch depressed indication. I've swapped connectors on the button itself and it will function as Max Bet, so the button itself is good. Could be wiring or a bad Blackfin Control Board.

Still not sure where the actual Cash Out signal is supposed to come from or why I have no options to assign it to a particular button.

My firmware is BFDB0004 according to the EEPROM on the Controller.

I'll keep trying different things until I figure it out.

Thanks again

Curtis ash100

The sticker on the controller is not the firmware, that's the boot chip version.  You need to look up the firmware in the menus under device version check.

Thanks for the clarification.

Mine says BFDB006E.bin2010-04-09 for the DynamiX Buttons.

So it looks like a later version.

And the OS I'm using is AI014B0C if that makes a difference.

The firmware you have is good, it is not the gameking one that has issues.  So your problem lies elsewhere.  At this point I would trace the cash out and service button and trace the wires all the way to the backplane, since they are not really part of the dynamic button panel.  Also try booting with diagnostic key and push the buttons to see if they register.

So I did what was suggested and still came up empty.

The harness that connects the static buttons leads directly to a plug on the driver board mounted to the back wall. Same one that the USB and HDMI Cable plugs into. So they are part of that system in the SMLD/SAVP type machines.

I booted up the second machine this morning to check it's configuration and it has a higher version of the firmware installed. It is BFDB008E instead of the 006 like the problem machine.

It's 3 outer most static buttons are also assigned as 6, 8 and 10 which is completely different than the problematic machine. Only 2 buttons function on it and they are assigned as 10 and 16.

So now I am wondering if a firmware update will solve this issue. If so, how do I update it?

The 2 pictures are of the working machine with the buttons assignment. This is what I'm trying to duplicate on the other game somehow.

Thanks, Curtis ash100

You need a windows program call CSV and the proper firmware to flash.  From what I've been told, you hook up the backplane to the pc through the usb cable and load the CSV program which will find anything that can be flash upgraded, then you load up the correct firmware version and it updates it.
