Avp slant vs g20
« on: January 29, 2021, 09:11:48 PM »
A friend is looking at buying a avp slant (g22?). Wondering what the differences if any, are there between a g20 and the slant besides cabinet config.

Well he picked it up; here’s a couple things so far that have us scratching our heads.

The backplanes look fairly identical between his and my g20, except he has no comm boards installed. I suppose the machine can still work without them if there is nothing in the settings looking for them? Mine has 3 ports used, the RS232 on top, and two fiber optic boards below it. I’m guessing that all he needs is that daughter board plugged into the top port (comm1) in order to install a tito.

Another thing we noticed is he has a standard touch screen for his main, so the dvi/vga cables are connected differently than mine. He has games like western stars installed, seems to work fine although it’s an mld game. Do the cable connections / routing allow the game to play on a single layer screen? I know on some mld games, the second screen will have a white silhouette while the 1st screen gives the graphic creating that 3D feel. Are there some mld games that will not work with his setup?

Thanks all!

To use TITO all he needs is to install the rs232 com board as you suspect.  The dealer probably removed them to sell as parts.  Most mld compatible games are supposed to work on regular screens, though I don't know exactly which ones do and which ones don't, but in general I have seen many of the MLD games on standard screens in casinos.  I am thinking a lot of the licensed titles that were sold with specific cabinet configurations may not be standand screen compatible.  The game would show up with white areas where the second screen should be.

From what I understand the game file name tells you what will work on both video and mld as follows:Game Programs:
EX: GC014-004AX6-0001
GC 014 -004 AX6 -0001
GC/GCON, GT/TYPE, GI/GAME,
014 = Family
004 = Platform………………………………………>>
AX6 = SAP THEME ID or Game Type if labeled GT>>
0001 = VERSION
Platform Key:
000 = Video AVP Legacy Numbering that was used before the implementation of the SAP ID.
001 = Video AVP
002 = REELdepth
003 = SAVP (Mechanical Reels)
004 = SAVP and/or REELdepth Can be used for both platforms.
005 = Video or REELdepth. Can be used for both platforms
So any 005 title would work on both a mld and regular video, where as an 002 will only work on mld.

That’s really helpful. After he got his ekey, he went into his settings and there were a couple games inactive. When he activated and went to play, the machine locked up and went into an error loop. Makes sense why they weren’t active, but not sure why they weren’t removed from the machine.

In either case, he found his daughter board floating behind the brainbox. So that solves that issue, except the boards 5 pin has a harness connected to it already, and is routed to a different board on the side of the machine. Looks to have a boot chip installed on it- I thought this circuit board was inside the brainbox. Anyone know why the comm board would be connected to this? I had him take a photo, but there is a lot in the way.

It was probably part of a casino player tracking and is no longer needed in the machine.

I second Bpracers post.  that is player tracking from the casino.  I usually remove all of that from my machines.

You need to completely go thru that cabinet and check all the sensors and make sure hat they're operating correctly.
Usually it's just a loose cherry switch not properly seated in the mount right.

Check the grey ribbon cable that comes out of the mpu box to the backplane for damage or if it is lose.

Had to be. All good now. That cabinet is in definite need of tlc. His printer is not working- can print test but not cash out. I’m guessing it has to be set up in the comm menu, but he’s waiting on a new daughter board. So he can put in the tito. The board that was in it had a 10 pin socket on the side, not the 5.
