Looking for someone with insight on this.  My G22 does not utilize the J59 VGA port to plug into my MPU.  Instead it is bypassed to the J151 port via 3 pin connector.  My machine has a standard non-MLD screen.  Wondering if the non-MLD screen is the reason for the bypass of the backplane VGA to MPU route that most AVP's seem to utilize. 
This is how the machine was connected upon receiving it from the casino. 


I recently added an ATI Radeon HD 3650 512mb graphics card to the MPU and shortly after began receiving Board Monitor tilts.  Also wondering if this connection may have something to do with that?

Thats a DB9 port.  Not DB15 which is used for VGA.  Thats a Serial port.

And considering Serial RS232 only requires TX/RX/GND those 3 wires are all thats needed.

Hey thank you for the reply.  I am new to these machines, and pretty green.   But by chance are you thinking I am referencing the J29 port? Because I am referencing the J59 port. 
What I am trying to figure out is if I should be getting a different cable to connect to the port on the backplane that is circled in red over the way that it is presently hooked up (circled in yellow).  All other photos of AVPs, and other friends that have AVPs are using the other method of connection to the MPU and not the way mine is, and therefore I am wondering what reasons mine would not be they way others are.


Your reply said it was all that was needed for the connection, but just curious why I have not seen any others this way....

Also at the present time I do not have a rs232 daughter board on my machine, but have one arriving in the mail soon to get my tito going.

On my AVP the J151 (the three wires) goes to the Serial port on the front of the CPU. again as stated above by slotman these ports are not VGA they are serial connections. I would guess that either one works as a serial connection to the CPU.

That J59 port is a DB9 not a DB15.  Look at a VGA cable, you will see 15 pins.  Look at J59 you will see only 9 holes.The attached PIC is a VGA cable connection.You would never be able to plug a VGA cable in to that.

Long story short, that port is irrelevant to anything monitor related.

Sorry for the multiple replies. 
On the bottom left hand corner is LED's for the backpane. Are all of those lit?Double check the 24 pin molex connector on the power supply to the brainbox (assuming it isnt a 660 and power supply is external).  Possibly re-seat the molex connectors.How old is the battery on the backpane?  The one that looks like a cordless phone batt.  I believe you would get a Tell tale error but just throwing ideas out there.
What I am thinking is possibly your added graphics card is maxing out your power supply or showing a loose connection that is rearing its head because of the added load of the graphic card.The board monitor tilt seems to be power related.  If it goes away when the graphics card is removed than you may find your answer.

Hey no problem on the multiple replies.  The more the better.  So I will be ordering a battery soon as the date on the battery was 2009, still the original battery.  I ended up taking the brainbox out and cleaned all connections related.
I had read on another post of this D5 cleaner being a miracle cleaner, where others stated it was not that great.  Mark me down for miracle cleaner because after cleaning my connections my tilt is gone, and I now have 0 lag on any of my games....even on bonuses, and large win celebrations.  My machine struggled with some of these before the connection cleanings. 
The only other variant is I replaced a dvi to vga cable to my lower monitor to a dvi to dvi.  Picture is much better as a result.
I have to guess that the backplane batteries must be rechargeable, being that it has lasted 11-12 years. 

On a side note does anyone know if/what settings I will loose or have to re-program when I change out that 3.6 backplane battery?  Is there a way to do the swap without loosing/having to reprogram data?

You won't lose anything by changing out the Telltale Battery on the backplane.


They're for casino use only, but are still required for your machine to operate. And yes, they are rechargeable, so that's probably why you haven't received a "Telltale Battery Low" error message.
