G23 Monitor change from MLD to Standard
« on: April 16, 2021, 01:19:09 PM »
I want to remove the MLD monitor from my upright G23 and replace it with a standard monitor, any idea if this is practical and what is the replacement monitor.

You should be able to change it out. I don’t know about the g23s but on the g20s I believe there is an mld controller board... not 100% on that tho. Eliminate that anD I’d think it’d work. You’d probably have to do a wipe on the ram and backplane.

Heres one on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-New-23-USB-Touch-Screen-IGT-G23-V2-G23-None-MLD-V2-Upright-LCD-117-/123537220832?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Some games will not work on non mld, and can red screen it.

Why do you want to go non mld?
Current setup:
WMS Bb2e
Bally Pro V32
AVP G23 MLD
Konami Concerto Dual
Konami Concerto Crescent
Aristocrat MK6

There’s a thread here somewhere that talks about fam 14 game #s and how they correspond to the mld setup. Some games are 100% a no go, and some that have mld graphics will still work on the standard. A friend of mine had little shop of horrors installed on his G22 slant hdd, but not active. When he got his ekey, he activated it an red screened it.

I have both an mld and non mld g20, I’ll look at the differences tonight.

I take back the mld controller statement... I was thinking of the controller for the dynamic button panel (my non mld has a standard deck). I do see that there appears to be a power inverter/supply box on the mld. On the standard the power cord attaches directly to the back of the screen. That’s the only difference I can see other than the vga jumper of course. But that’d go away with the standard screen anyway.

Bally Pro V32
AVP G23 MLD
Konami Concerto Dual
Konami Concerto Crescent

Why would you want to do that all games can play on MLD.

The statement made above about some games not working on mld is 100% backwards. Non MLD monitors limit you by roughly half of the game library for family 14

Sorry if I wasn’t clear- all games except stepper will work on mld, but a good amount of mld will not work on standard. There are some that do work, I have proof of that.

Yes any 002 or 004 file will not work on a standard non mld screen. 003 files are stepper games they require reels.

Game Programs:
EX: GC014-004AX6-0001
GC 014 -004 AX6 -0001
GC/GCON, GT/TYPE, GI/GAME,
014 = Family
004 = Platform.............................................>> AX6 = SAP THEME ID or Game Type if labeled GT>> 0001 = VERSION
Platform Key:
000 = Video AVP Legacy Numbering that was used before the implementation of the SAP ID. 001 = Video AVP
002 = REELdepth
003 = SAVP (Mechanical Reels)
004 = SAVP and/or REELdepth Can be used for both platforms. 005 = Video or REELdepth. Can be used for both platforms

while I was noting which types will work on a  non mld, let me be clear that I personally would not replace an mld with a non.  While there are many titles that will run on a non mld, you are erasing your ability to play many of the best titles on the avp platform by changing to a non monitor.  I would strongly recommend repairing or replacing the mld monitor.  You may spend less on a non mld now, but I believe in the long run you will regret the decision.

I think we would all agree with that, but it sounds like he’s in an availability / price pickle. A quick search on the web doesn’t provide much for a replacement.

They need to reach out to the vendors on the front page of this site.  Many of the vendors have a lot of inventory on hand that isn,t going to show up on a google search.

Also if they tell us what the issues are we very may be able to guide them through a much less expensive repair, ie an ad board swap, etc.

The 5 vendors the site has chosen are far from his only options nothing against them they all seem good and fast with service no complaints there at all but they have not added a vendor since like 2013.
