PE - Bet 1, Play 5 and Service Buttons
« on: September 18, 2024, 03:12:33 AM »
Good morning,

I converted my PE to LED buttons and have an odd problem.  The Bet 1, Play 5, and Service Buttons no longer work.  I confirmed wiring colors at least five times using this thread:  https://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=10486.msg91695#msg91695

I ensured the two white Molex style connectors are good, all pins clean, seated, etc.  I also swapped out the switches on these three buttons with the old ones to see if they are defective...no luck.   Cash out button flashes.  I read where it might be good to zero out credits before going into setup screen.  It won't pay out because it's over 1000 credits I suppose and could just play it down.

Is there a common wire I should trace impacting these three buttons, a programming/setup issue, or any other idea as to root cause?  Thanks in advance

PE or PE+?
It sure sounds like something got crossed in the wires. Any chance you did the swap with it powered on and shorted the controller?
Im trying to think of what could happen that would cause that. The buttons all go into the 50 pin connector on the game board on a PE non-Plus. Maybe you could run a jumper wire from the pin for that button and the ground pin. Start a game and then complete the circuit manually to see if the connection works. If it doesn’t you know the problem is not the button itself.

Maybe someone else who has a little more experience with a PE will jump in with a better idea.

Those boards are pretty basic so finding the pin for that button is not hard, its clearly called out on the schematic which I uploaded into the file system. If you need help finding which pins to use let me know.

It’s a PE.  I’ll recheck the wires and then work your other suggestion  Chris-socal. Thanks

The thread you linked to was posted by me years ago and was for a PE+. If you have a PE (non-plus) there's no guarantee that the wiring is the same.

For what it's worth, on the PE+ the buttons are wired in series. If you mess up the wiring on one button, it can affect others in the series.

Thanks all.  Pulled coin mech and found reversed wire on deal/draw button. Rookie mistake.  Solved everything.  Can confirm knagl that your wiring thread works with a PE, same harness and interfaces. Thanks again, case solved.  Now on to a Fortune 1

Glad you worked it out, sometimes you just need someone to nudge you into digging a little deeper! Great job.
Thanks Kevin for your post that is still relevant today!
