G23 Speaker Halo LED's Not Illuminating
« on: December 17, 2022, 07:43:19 PM »
Hello all,

First time poster but I've been lurking over the past month or so as I went through the process of buying my first machine.

I recently purchased a G23 and ever since I've set it up the Halo LED ring around the speaker has never illuminated.  The speakers themselves work as expected but the ring stays off 24/7.  I'm not even sure where the LED controller should be plugged in as it hard to find documentation around the LED Halo specifically.  My initial thought was that the company I bought the machine from hi-jacked the Halo LED input to drive the topper instead but I'm not sure that's how these things work.  I did notice there's an area marked "USB" near the speaker inputs but there doesn't appear to be a USB header present (see pics).

I've attached a few pictures of my machine, does anyone see anything glaringly wrong?

Thanks for any help,

Wamo

I'm kind of new to these machines too but one suggestion I have is to see if it's even enabled software wise. If you go into your settings with the e-key there's a way to change the colors of that bar as well as your buttons if they are dynamic - I think it's under setup - machine.

I also noticed the company I bought mine off of just had it on solid blue colors, nothing changed, but you can kind of make them whatever you want, but lots of games can actually control the lights too. After I did a wipe + fresh install with my new SSD - lots of games now change colors as your win is counting up. So maybe check software settings first & hopefully someone that knows more about the hardware can assist if needed.

Yeah mine was also setup to be blue only when I got it.  I've confirmed that I've changed it so that games can change the colors as they'd like.

At this point I'm thinking it's a hardware issue.  I've double checked all the settings for anything relevant and I can't see anywhere were the Speaker LEDs are disabled.  I also ran the self-test (Support -> Diagnostic -> Device -> Feature Self Test -> USBLightsFeature & DynamiX Buttons: Speaker Lights) and it returns completed but no lights flash as I would expect.

If anyone has their G23 open can you snap a pic of the inputs on the bottom of the speaker near the AUX cables (like the one in my original post)?.  I'd like to confirm if that's where the USB LED controller is supposed to be plugged in.

Thanks,

Wamo

Here's inside mine. I followed the 24v wires to the backpane and it appears to be going into J12. Maybe try unplugging + reseating that connection? Not sure if that has anything to do with the LED lighting tho, but since it's all part of the speaker might be worth a try.

Ah so yours doesn't have anything on the "USB" portion of the PCB either.  Interesting.  Well there goes that theory.  I found some old schematics for the G23 that indicated that J18 was the speaker halo LED control port, but I'll take a look at J12 as well.

Thanks for the Pics!
