1990's Elvis slot machine whereabouts
« on: October 29, 2014, 11:45:10 AM »
My wife was asking me about the old mechanical 3 reel Elvis slot machines she used to play back in the 1990's. They were tall machines with a bonus game in the upper area. She remembers a few similar versions, they had a pointer or a moving light that would spin to award you, plus a small tv screen that would play a short video of Elvis singing one of his hits. Like all older slots they were removed to make way for newer machines but she could still sometimes find one at places like Four Queens, Golden Nugget and Mermaids down on Fremont St. I haven't seen these machines show up in the used slot market, were they in a similar category as the Wheel of Fortune machines (leased and returned to manufacturer, then mostly destroyed)?  Does anyone have further info about them?

Thanks!

Well I believe it falls under the same "leased game" category. I'm sure that they're a few out there. I have been looking for 1 for a while but have never seen 1 for sale. I've seen parts on ebay once in a great while.

I moved this to the S2000 category. Looks like these came out in '98 or '99. The earliest jackpot record is for '99 and the last was in 2011. I suspect these were not only leased games but probably WAP machines also that wouldn't operate as standalones in a home user environment. I've only been on this site for 6 years or so but this is the first time I recall anyone looking for one which would indicate there may not have been a huge number in the first place and/or a lot of them were pulled around the same time. Good luck with your search

That funny, I just came across the CD for that machine in a pile of parts I have.  It has all the video clips of him on it.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

Thanks for moving it to the proper area, I didn't know which IGT platform it was based on. I remember a few different versions of the game, some with a large red "ELVIS" sign at the top that had each letter spelled out in individual red lights, usually found in a group or bank. But I'm pretty sure the games she played weren't those progressive ones, they had a different top and didn't seem to be part of a progressive bank, although there were often 2 or more of them next to each other. They usually had a mechanical pointer, sort of like a second hand on a clock, it would circle around and select your bonus award. But some of them had a circle of lights that chased each other around and stopped on your award bonus. The mechanical pointer version was probably an early game in the series.

I assume they were all IGT machines since the theme was probably licensed to only one slot company. Is there a history of IGT machines anywhere, or would that be a tough job since they made so many different games?

With so many gambling jurisdictions around the country now I suppose there could be places off the beaten track that still have 20 year or older machines. I've been to Laughlin and Primm, both had older machines at some of the casinos there. Always makes me wonder what they have in the little places scattered around.

Are the WAP style of machines not suitable for home use because they need a remote server to run them, the machine itself does not have the normal slot computer hardware inside? If so that should reduce the cost of the machine. Reminds of the idea behind the video terminal screens in some states.

Below is another picture of one style of the machine she liked to play, I think this was at the Golden Nugget in LV.

-EDITED-
Yes, that was one of the ones she liked to play, it wasn't a progressive, right?  But I don't remember that red ELVIS topper sign on the ones she played, maybe that was an option and some places didn't install them, ceiling height problem at older places maybe?  What's your understanding about the availability of the Elvis 3 reel mechanical slots? Were there not many made (hard to believe) so they are scarce today, or just that they were returned to IGT for disposal? Seems like they would pop-up on the used slot market, it's been about 20 years ago for the early ones. Odd that there are so many lesser themed or even generic slots available but not this one with a big-time theme that many people would want. Perhaps the license agreement prohibited resale or something. The Presley enterprise people are almost as strict about their brand control as the NFL is.

I was looking again at those pictures I posted above and realized those Elvis machines my wife was playing were part of a progressive setup, the jackpot readout at the top is way more than a standalone quarter machine would have, probably even higher than what a casino internal progressive jackpot would be. So maybe it was part of a WAP. That would explain why we don't see any of these on the used slot market, as cowboygames said if they were a WAP game machine they wouldn't be suitable for standalone home use.

The machine in this picture works, Don't know who it belongs to.  Would be a snap for me to make it work, costly though.

I would think your chances of winning the powerball might be better than finding a vision screen with the right software

The "ELVIS" on the top of the machine was just a topper I believe. I'm pretty sure the software is out there,it's just coming up with all the parts to build it is gonna be tough. I've seen the top box and reel strips on ebay a few times. But like sizzler said it'd gonna be a very expensive machine, I would plan on spending well over 4k to get 1 or have 1 built

If you're referring to the picture of the Elvis machine above that is sitting near that window-like thing on the wall to the left that picture was taken at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas several years ago. It's not at a house. They had a wall of machines just to the right of the main bar, and in one corner at the end there was that window-like feature that actually had mirrors in the window frames.

Ok, Thanks.  So All You people are saying you cannot run these?.  Or just want the whole damn machine, or have one missing the display but booted and still don't work.  I could care less,  Just from a hobbiest point now.  I had all this and sold it long ago,  Still have the disc, and a few other left.  And to answer another question this is not on the same platform as a wof.

well, I don't know about the others, some probably want one, some are just commenting about it as a curiosity. We don't see them available, was wondering what happened to them, were they WAP type machines so not easily setup for home use which keeps them from being carried for sale. If you look at the hundreds of different slot machines for sale this one just doesn't come up. How did you acquire one - were they easily available back when you got it?
