Zero Check Failure on 044 Flashboard

Hey guys,


Have an 044 Flashboard that keeps coming up Zero Check Failure on startup.


Keychip will not work to correct the issue.


Has anyone else experienced this issue and how did you correct it?

044 flash boards are extremely static sensitive.  Sometimes you can fix that error by re-flashing the board.  Sometimes the damage to the affected flash chip is permanent and can't be fixed unless you replace the chip.  These boards, from a hardware point of view, are total crap.  Especially the ones that are BGA mounted chips (they are soldered to the board with contacts that are under the chips not legs), these have the lead free solder that over time, the heat makes the solder brittle and it cracks loosing connectivity.  This is also the main problem in the original xbox360's with the red ring of death.  You would think the industry would learn not to use this on things that are exposed to this kind of heat, especially slot machines that are basically on for 24 hours a day for years sometimes.

Watch carefully the messages you receive after you do a full clear and key, especially just prior to when you get the "zero check failure".  Look at the small white text at the bottom of the blue box where it gives you an ongoing status of the boot process.  If you get a message that says "DSA failure" then the board is toast and pitch it.  If you do not then you have half a chance that the board is repairable.

Yeah, DSA failure really bad news.

GK SHA Failure  and Zero Check Failure are sometimes fixable, but not always.

How could you fix the GK SHA failure problem Rick?

Sometimes re-flashing the board will fix it.  But not always.  These boards have a lot of little components and sometimes they fail, or just fall out causing these issues.  They are nightmare to fix.  You would need to find someone with a burner like the one that has been offered here before.
