Reel 1 Tilt Error
« on: June 16, 2015, 06:49:47 AM »
I'm bringing back to life an s2k that's been parked for a couple of years and am getting Reel 1 Tilt and Door Open M errors. Could these errors be related or do I need to address the tilt, then move onto the door? If it'll help diagnose the issue, the battery is new, the reels are properly seated and a complete RAM clear has been performed. I noticed at start-up that the reels test spin and then stop in order of 1-3-2, instead of the normal 3-2-1. Thoughts?

Swap the #1 reel with one of the others and see if the problem stays with the reel or the position. If it stays with the reel, ch3ck the reel for issues. If it stays with the position, check for obstructions to it spinning freely such as a wire harness touching it or it not being inserted all the way. Could also be door optics, but the maiden spin order suggests the problem is with the reel or reel position

I swapped the 1 with reel 2 and they now reset in the proper 3-2-1 order, however, I'm still getting a Reel 1 Tilt error. There are no obstructions and reels work perfectly in another machine.  :Scratch-Head:

Check the ribbon cable on the hinge side. When you close the door it is very close to reel 1. Maybe rubbing a little when the machine spins.

You should be able to swap reels back to origional positions to keep your reel strip order right. Depending on the game title the strip numbers could be the same or different, but if they are different swapping reel positions without swapping reel strips will screw up what shows on the reels for wins and whatnot. As Shaggy said, check again for obstructions and also check door optic alignment. One other thing to look at if you can't nail it down is check for corrosion under the green 3 cell battery on the MPU. The traces for door optics run underneath that battery and damage to them will show the main door open causing a reel spin error at startup. No guarantee this is the problem you're having, but it is rather common

Thanks for the tips, guys. I checked your suggestions and everything was fine. But in doing so, I found the inside rim of the reel in question was rubbing against the support arm coming up off the reel base. I hadn't seen that issue before but upon further investigation found that one of the cross arms had detached from the opposite rim (if that makes sense). I snapped the pieces together and violá – it's spinning properly and now stopping in the proper order!  :propeller:

Doesn't explain why they worked in another machine, but whatever!

Sometimes when they break where the Cross arm pin goes in the hole I have used Super Glue with great success.
Glad you got it fixed. That has happened to about everyone on this Form at one time or another.
Good Luck
