I Game Sound Issue
« on: June 29, 2015, 01:24:42 PM »
Upon initializing stage of start up, my left speaker pops once and then when the game is playing, no sound comes out of the left speaker. When doing touch screen calibration, I hear the tone when I touch the screen coming from the left speaker, so it doesn't appear to be speaker related. I've used contact cleaner on the SND SIMM and contact cleaner throughout the top cabinet where the speaker wiring is.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Jim

The sound was working properly before and now it's not so something must be screwy.
Thanks, Jim

Got another MML2 sound board to try?  Do you have another game kit to throw in the machine.  If another game kit is fine, then the amp, wiring, MMLB2, and MPU are fine.  If it stays with the game, the sound SIMM might be a problem.

Thanks,
Jason

Popping/cracking sounds in the audio are normally caused by the MML2 board in my experience.  In particular 1uf surface mount caps C33/C34 or C57/C59 are usually the cause.  If you're not using the aux audio input (most people aren't, it's the 1/8" stereo input jack on the MML2 board) then you can remove C57/C59 and see if that corrects your problem.  If not then it's either C33 or C34.  One is for the right channel and one is for the left channel audio, I just can't remember which is which and the schematics don't say.  You can replace them with the ones removed from C57/C59 and see if that fixes it.
