IGT S2000 5 Reel Noise
« on: July 26, 2015, 03:47:33 AM »
How do you stop the reel noise in the reels of the S2000 5 Reel Machines ? Would silicone injected into the Hub hurt anything ?

Thanks

Usually the noise is caused by wear of the plastic reels on the shaft. You can try removing the C clip and carefully remove the reel from the shaft. Clean the shaft and wrap one (only one) turn of scotch tape around the shaft to take up the space and reinstall the reel. CAUTION this is a delicate procedure and the reels are old and brittle so you risk cracking the plastic hub and rendering the reel useless.
This should significantly lower the noise level. I would try to single out the bad actors and only do those, as the risk of cracking them while trying this procedure is high.

In a casino the noise is no big deal, at home it is overpowering. Short of buying new reels I have not found a better way. I should have mentioned that I also lube the shaft bearings as you said the only difference is I use a very small amount of light oil like 3 in one.( emphasis on very small amount) You will find just lubing the shaft is short lived the noise will return rather quickly.
Forgot to say you should make sure that the mounting screws for the stepper motor are tight also.
If anyone has a better way let's hear it.

There are lots of discussions on the old site about reel noise, hope it might help.

Just type in "reel noise" in search section.

Ron I remember an old thread that I was part of on the old site or sites. I believe my problem to be the reel strips.

Thanks Danny

I don't know what your noise level is, but even with new reels and strips I still got a low level noise. Also, reel noise will come through the speakers if you have a 502 MPU w/ sound simm and haven't done the resistor fix on the speaker leads. Doesn't matter in this case how little physical noise they make. Just a thought...

They have the 044 enhanced board ? The noise sounds more of a plastic rattle, like maybe the reel strips !

I got you, 1270 enhanced MPU, no speaker noise from those.
Loose strips can contribute to the sound level as can reel wear like was stated above. If your volume level is set at around 2 and you can clearly hear the hum of the reels over the sound of the machine you could try any option listed earlier, including the silicone or some people have had luck with zip tying(?) The 2 sides of the reel together at a point close to the center to tighten them up. New reels may or may not make an acceptable difference
