Vision Topper
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:14:13 PM »
I have a vision machine that I have been wanting to install a oval topper in it...currently I had the monitor and harness removed to play non vision games .....I have read a post on how some hooked one up using some existing wires to power the unit...My topbox doesn't have any of these wires to do so, is it possible to make a harness to plug into a dist board and run the topper ....Here is the post I was referring to

in the center is your sound amp. to the right there is an indent and should have a plug. The wiring you removed with the monitor should have plugged in there and 12vdc and 24 vdc. orange+ and orange with black stripe- are 24vdc, and red+ and red with black stripe- are 12vdc

Jim,
Bottom left cutout of top box has a 6 pin plug ...wires go up to top of box for the fan, candle etc this is the one you are refering to correct ....
if so this would be the plug for the topper correct

The one I'm talking about is on the right side. Looks like you have speakers inside the top. If you have this place, you can get a wire harness and power dist. from idesign or blueridge.

No luck on the right side ...no 10 pin plug, i will have to chase the wires but there is a 12 pin plug not in use on the left with the wires you spoke of ...is that possible

OK, here is something you can do. The wires going to the ballast are 24vdc, you can tap into them before the ballast to power your fluorescent in the topper. The red(positive) and red with black stripe (negative)going to your sound board are 12vdc and will power the chase lights. The only other way is to get 3-12vdc power supplies like battery chargers etc. Use a power strip to turn them on. The first 12vdc use for chase lights. The second 2 wire in series by taking the positive wire from 1 and connecting to the negative wire from the other, then there will be one positive and one negative from each power supply and will make a safe 24vdc

Jim,
If I install a Dist. board.. tap into the power from the amp and power the dist. board with that ...would that work... then all I would have to do is plug the topper into the dist. board.
But on the other hand if I ever change the machine back to a vision ....the harness to the LCD would have to plug back in on the plug on the right side that is currently running the amp board ..... :Scratch-Head:

I would be very careful using power from the 12 pin plug on the left side or the 9 pin as well or motherboard damage may occur

Yes you can use the fan or the ballast power for the topper ballast and tap into the amp harness for the LED board.

Be careful with the polarity on the LED board it does not like reverse polarity at all.
You will blow the fuse and a very hard to find +5VDC regulator. its rated for 50mA and unless you want to do SMD rework be careful.
