Fried power supply
« on: August 08, 2015, 12:00:38 PM »
My power supply on my game king recently totally failed and became badly damaged beyond repair.  I am having a hard time finding an exact replacement.  I have attached a couple of photos.  Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on a comparable replacement.  Thanks in advance for the help.

There were different manufacturers, but they all serve same purpose and are interchangeable.

That is a power supply out of an older 13" Game King and they are hard to find.  Newer Game King/I-game/S2000 power supplies may work in it, but it will not mount in the machine like the original.  If your AC input power is on pins 22 and 24 (see picture) then newer power supplies will work in it and you just have to figure out how to mount it.  I took the "guts" out of a newer power supply and mounted it in the older cage so it would mount in the machine correctly.  Not all the of the original screws will fit in the new "guts" and I think I had to drill/tap a screw or two to put the back mounting plate on.  It would have been easier just to leave it in it's original case and find a way to secure it in the machine...zip ties or something.  I don't always do things the simple way though  :duh:   If your AC wiring doesn't match the picture then you will need to rewire the connector or keep looking for an original power supply.   If you look for an original make sure the part number matches what you have exactly or you may get one that looks identical to yours, but is wired different internally and it won't work either.

Here's the harness from mine.  Hoping it will work as I already ordered part.

Did you order a new style GK/I-game/S2000 power supply?  If so, it's not going to work without moving a couple of pins around on your power supply connector.  You need a special pin extractor to remove those pins too.  You could try to find a newer style wiring harness for it, but that may not be an easy find either.

It is a new style power supply (all I could find).  Can you please send a link for the pin extractor I would need.  I'm assuming I would just need to move the 2 wires that are not in conjunction on the right (AC) side of the harness.  If anyone knows where I can find an old style power supply I would be grateful.  Thanks for all the help.

Do a google search for "molex mini fit jr pin extractor".  You can find them on ebay, amazon, electronic part suppliers, etc.  They are supposedly the same size as computer ATX power supply connectors so you can try that as well.

You will need to move the brown wire in pin 23 to pin 20, and the black wire in pin 19 to pin 7 (see photo).  You can't see pin 7, but it is directly behind pin 19.  After that then you'll just have to figure out how to mount it or at least secure it in some fashion.

You're better off getting the newer power supply from Roz (CVslots), the old ones are hard to come by, and 20 years old now if you can find one.  The electrolytic capacitors in them have most likely dried out and the supply probably won't last long before it fails like yours did.

Got new power supply today as well as extractor.  Took backplate off old power supply and used new plate to drill new pilot holes in so I was able to mount properly.  Booted up and is working beautifully.  Entire process took about 10 minutes.  Thanks for all the help and knowledge you've bestowed upon me.
