Game Swaps on the 044 platform
« on: September 25, 2015, 07:53:51 AM »
Hello, I'm new to the group and currently have a Game King 5.0 (3902 board) that I recently purchased and got up and running, thanks to the great archives on this forum.  I love the idea of being able to swap the gameboards and plan to make use of the how to "GK Game swaps so simple even....." for my current machine.  I'm expecting to pick up two more Game Kings on the 044 platform and upgrading them to 6.2 software.  What I wanted to know is if anyone has had any luck finding a similar option for these boards?  I suspect I'd have run across in my searches, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

There isn't an option to integrate the EEPROM onto the 044 board like you can with the 3902 board.  Best bet is to get a EEPROM (24C256) for each 044 board you have and swap the board and backplane EEPROM together as a set.   It's easier to remove and install the backplane EEPROM if you put it in a socket first.  So you'll have the EEPROM in a socket, and then plug it into the socket on the backplane.  You can do that with just your fingers, well unless you have really big fingers I suppose  :Tongue_Out: .  Label the 044 tray and EEPROM with the installed game and you're all set.

Thank you! it's not quite as slick as the 3902, but I'll take it.  I figured it was a long shot that both boards would have dormant functionality just waiting for us to hack them.  Your suggestions certainly beat doing the Game King config each time you do a game swap.  :cool_thumb_up:
