IGT Code 12
« on: October 30, 2015, 11:30:59 AM »
Have a IGT S+ Triple Diamond machine that has always work great the past year or so.  Well the machine was powered off for about a month--with no credits shown.   When I went to turn it on I get slow flashing top candle light and fast flashing bottom light.     Also shows a code 12.

I pulled board and checked battery voltage, it reads 3.7 VDC. :Scratch-Head:

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Update- fixed Code 12 due to bad battery connection.  Now I power up get code 61, open door, push reset and get a code 61-1. Shut door and use Reset Key-.  Code clears for about 4 sec. and then Code 61 again.

You are in the infamous 61 loop.  You need to force the machine to re-init data.  Either perform a clear, change the SP chip to something radically different to what you have, and  the least desirable method is to short your non-volatile NVRAM chip.

The MPU has an area of Non-Volatile ram where the slot keeps the configuration information, credits, play history, etc.  When the battery is removed, this has the potential to get corrupt.  Problem is, the system does not erase the data because of jurisdictional issues.  So the game tries to boot up and clear non-essential data, but since the whole thing is corrupt, it cannot start. It's a like a windows hard drive that became corrupt, sometimes fixing some of the system files works, sometimes, you have to re-install OS.  It's kind of what is happening here.  Unfortunately the only ways to re-initialize your non-volatile ram is:

1.  Perform a clear, A clear chip is needed to do this.
2.  Replace the SP Eprom with something significantly different.  I.e. Your SP chip is 871, replace it with an SP1271.
3.  The non-volatile ram is a chip that is an SRAM chip.  A lot of people just remove it and short the legs forcing it to become totally corrupt and the system re-builds it.  Your issue is that the information on this chip is corrupt, but not enough to have the machine re-initialize it.  These chips have fragil legs, and sometimes removing them breaks off some of the legs.  That is why it is not recommended.  If you can't get it to clear.  I suggest you invest in a clear and also a set chip to re-enable your validator, which gets disabled when you clear the machine.

Well, right after I purchased my slots a few years ago someone suggested I also purchase a clear chip.  So I did and when I received them I stored them in a place I could remember where to find ---SURE!
So just before I ored them on the WEB I looked one more place and found them.

I have one chip labeled KEY00045 and the other IVC00224

Do I have what I need and whats next?
Thanks

BTW I keep seeing  Bill Validater---this machine is Coins only.

Those are S2000 parts, you need S+ set and clear.

Edited to show set instead of clear  :duh: , thanks for the correction knagl.

you need S+ key and clear.
For clarity, he needs a set of S+ SET and clear chips. The bill validator SET chips for S+ machines aren't referred to as "key" chips. Semantics, but it will help to avoid confusion when ordering.

Well I think I may be wrong one the Mod.  I'm thinking this is a 2000 S and not  S+.
The numbers on the lower right side on the outside of cabinet reads:
Mod: 4933C
Ser: 087864
Dtd. Mfg 7-92

What else can I look for to ID.
Thanks

If it was an S2000 he wouldn't be getting 61-1, or 12 errors.  He would get battery low and cmos errors.

At last USPS (not UPS) finally delivered my clear chip.  I have MPU out--so do I pull the one labeled "Game Prom" and put clear chip in?
Also, do I need a tool to take out?

Here's a great instruction list from Ohio Gaming.
Scroll to the bottom for the ram clear. READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY!

:applause: Thanks, GOT It! However, had a small scare--after replacing Clear chip I powered up and got a 65-3 code--pulled my Error Code listing and followed repair steps--Turn reset key- did that and got a 61-1. So I use reset key again and -Viola--it's working.  One thing I noted while playing when I had a 15 credit spin it would pay straight out and not build the credit amount.  Before I always had to hit the "Cash Out" for it to kick out the coins.  I will close this  post out and search for solution--main thing, its working and nothing better than that , Cha-Ching" Sound anyway. :dancing_2:

Again, thanks for all the inputs.

push the cash/credit button so that it is lit, that way it will accumulate credits instead of paying it out.  It is also a setting that can be set to default I believe it is page 0 setting 5 -1 I think after a clear it defaults to 5 - 0
