S2000 needs 10+ minutes to boot
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:54:00 AM »
Okay, I don't know when this started happening but I'm experiencing the following on my 5-reel S2000 with 504 Rev B board with BettorTito.

I plug it in, the machine lights turn on and 4 amber and 1 green led are lit. Then it stays quiet, for some time like at least 10 minutes sometimes even longer. And after a while it continues with the bill validator test etc and everything works fine from then on.

This is the history, I don't see anything that would hint to the cause of this issue. https://youtu.be/9rP4DyWB7no
I'm from Europe.

Oh and btw, after it finally powers up and I leave it on for a while, and then turn off and on again, it goes as fast as it normally should. So It only occurs if the machine is 'cold'.

Can you try a test.  Let the machine go cold again...maybe an hour or two.  Then unplug the serial cable to the TITO board.  Turn back on and see if it boots up slowly or if its back to normal.  Also check if game play speed is any different.

I mention this because in the past 6 months we have had 2 Bettor TITO customers that noticed a dramatic decrease in speed once the TITO board was installed.  They noticed it in their game play (reel spin and stop speed).  Naturally we wanted to blame the TITO board because when unplugged the machine went back to normal speed.  Or the possibility of something with the SB or Version chip (for example a New Jersey chip well known for slowing things down).  However in the one case we decided to test on another machine, exact same game, software, and board setup, and from that we determined that the TITO board itself was not the issue.  What we do think though the issue is that there is a partial short in communications between the TITO board and the MPU of the machine and so the board was forced to process a lot of garbage, thus slowing it down.  In a case like that the problem is caused by any one of the communication element including the TITO serial cable, relay board inside the power distribution box, the ribbon comm cable, the back plane, or the main board itself.

If the board is still slow to start after this test, then try the test again by unplugging the printer.  If still no good I'm thinking issue is the main board itself.

Does your VFD display say "NETPLEX DOWN" while the machine is setting quite? If so, your power supply is most likely the culprit.

Hi! Tried both, nor the tito board nor the printer disconnected helped.

@BiggerHammer VFD doesn't show anything until it continues with boothing.

@cowboygames I have the 504 rev B mpu, The green varta is still present, it leaked a bit when I got the machine and I cleaned up the messy stuff, would you assume that it damaged the board to this extend that it causes the long boot?

Alex,
I've seen many a weak power supply cause the symptoms you are having. The first thing you should do is remove that Varta battery from your 504 board and throw it away before it destroys your board. You don't need it for 50x boards. After removing it, start the machine and see what happens. Switch out the main power supply with a known working one if you have another machine. These are two very easy things to try before you start troubleshooting netplex devices.

If not corrected with posted info above try removing the multi-media sound board and reboot

sound settings may need to be reprogrammed after re-installing sound board
