IGT 2000/Slot Newbie
« on: May 03, 2017, 02:33:33 PM »
Hey all, I just picked this up down in Texas. This is my first slot machine and I am excited to get it up and running. I have ordered the clear and key eproms as well as the reset key. The machine powers up but nothing is displayed on the LCD readouts. In the pictures you can see that it had a printer and still has the player tracking equipment installed. The MPU shows all amber LEDs lit and the red light flashes. I would really like to remove the player tracking and printer stuff and get it back to a basic machine but I can't seem to find a wiring diagram with pinout locations. I have seen some post on this site that indicate that the player tracking may have changed some of the wiring. I also removed the green corrosive battery from the MPU. I did do a search and couldn't find anything on removing the printer and player tracking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Could someone tell me where this plug goes. I acquired the S2000 Electronic Diagrams & parts but I'm having trouble locating this plug. Thanks.

It looks like you already have it plugged into the cabinet-side door optics but it's an optical illusion...lol

The other end goes into the harness near the right side of the cabinet.
You'll see a Molex connector that will fit it under behind the big white cherry switch.
It's for the cherry switch.

Sorry, that was a bad picture. The plug end is not plugged into anything. The other end is plugged into the cherry switch on the NO2 and COM2 pins. Thanks for your reply.

I'd look back about halfway down the right hand side of the cabinet somewhere under the handle mechanism...should be a 2-pin Molex located there in the harness?

Check the battery voltage on the coin battery and make sure all the proms are seated well on the MPU, then see what the board does. Battery should be at least 2.9 volts to work, but replace it anyway if it's under 3.0

No other plug that it will fit into on the right side. It was plugged into what looks like a pigtail for either the printer or player tracking(pic). I'm reading through the field service manual now.

Battery is 3.4V and I re-seated all eproms.

ThankS again guys, I appreciate all the help. My wife thinks I'm crazy for buying this thing and I'm going to prove her wrong.

Yeah, she is probably right but I can't let her know that lol.

Here are some pics of the only plug that it can plug into. This is located at the back of the machine passing from the top to the lower cabinet.

1st pic is top, next is bottom with orange and black wires running to it.

I have already been searching craigslist and Facebook for more. I picked this one up for $150 and I'd buy more for that price.

Man, this is driving me crazy :banghead: . Here is a pic of the cherry switch, the top 2 wires (black & Blue) are the ones that are not connected. The bottom 2 are connected to the service lamp and it works.

I know the black and blue wires have to tell something that the switch is open or closed.

Yes but you don't need the top two wires on the cherry switch because you already have door optics installed on the door and the cabinet-side....which tells the machine whether or not the door is open or closed.
The top 2 wires on the cherry switch may have been used as a security option in a live casino.

I'd pull them off the cherry switch for now until you learn more about the S2000 platform since your machine is already working.

That makes sense for the 2 wires on top, but the machine isn't working right now. The florescents all light up but I do not get any activity on the LCD on the front panel and I get all amber leds and a blinking red led on the MPU, which may not have anything to do with the cherry switch. I should be getting the clear and key eproms this weekend, maybe I'll just wait and do a complete clear and reset.

Bingo!
You need to do a bunch of reading in the S2000 part of NLG.
Especially on the MPU LED lights.
There's tons of information in there.
Good luck!

Usually a red light isn't good sign for a good MPU. But try the ram chip first.

Thanks, I've been reading a ton over the last few days. I suspected I will need a new MPU. Guess I'll get one on order. Thanks again. I'll post up how it turns out.

What I have encountered with a red led on the mpu could be bent pins, bad software, software in wrong ( notch the wrong way ), last but not least bad mpu board. Check closely all the pins on the back of your mpu where it plugs into the mother board.

I know the black and blue wires have to tell something that the switch is open or closed.

The other end went to the player tracking system.  You can remove it or leave it in the machine.  The door optics tell the machine if the main door is opened or closed.

The red blinking LED on the MPU board indicates that it is not booting correctly.  Swapping the MPU board with a known good one would be the first thing I'd try.
