New 044 setup, audio issues

Hello,


I recently swapped my 17" round top from a 3902 to an 044 setup for the very first time. The game plays great but I have no sound. So I turn the machine off, press the flash board and bootchip in, after it boots up then I have audio fine. I am not in a position to keep it on all the time, so when I got to turn it back on the sound is gone again. Any thoughts would be great. Nothing seems to be loose after hookup. The 3902 kits have sound simms or eproms, but I'm not sure what to look for on the 044 tray. Has anyone else ran into this? What can I check on either in the motherboard back plate or in the tray?

The sound program memory is on the flash board too.

I had one did what yours is doing.  Turn it on, no sound.  Let it warm up some, then turn it off & back on and the sound works.  Turn it off long enough so it completely cools off and no sound.  Turned out to be the flash board was bad.  There's been one or two others here that I can remember that reported the same problem.

I would try a different flash card and see if it fixes your problem.

I have 2 flashboards that  have no sound at all, now I have not left them on for a while to see if the sound eventually pops in, but I presume that if it needs to get warm, it's either one of the hundreds of mini caps on those boards or a cold solder somewhere.  It is definitely flashboard related.

Sorry to say, but more than likely it will. 

Not saying you did anything wrong, but be really careful when handling 044 flash cards.  They're really sensitive to static electricity.  Make sure to ground yourself before touching one and try to only handle the board by the edges.  Best bet is to use a grounded wrist strap when handling them.  Only a couple of bucks on Ebay, but can save you a lot of grief later.

Ya, I really did my homework before doing the switch. I have made sure to be super careful with it. Like I said, it had no sound on first hook up. It was mounted on the tray when I got it.
