My Bally 1090-10 needs some new lamps...

Started upgrading my 1090-10 with some LED's. Replaced the 3 fluorescent F8T5 12" lamps with LED's at 4100K at 8 Watts. VERY Tight fit, but loosening the sockets and filing the end of the led enclosure made them work.


Checked all the Miniature lamps and found out that 39 #44's go on the top section along with 7 #455 Flashers.


Door has 4 #63's, 1 #455, and 4 #44's. On my unit there was no lamp in the tilt location. This is on the bottom of the stack of 3 lamps on the left side. The wire colors are Blue (20) and Yellow with Green Tracer (34). I have a print for the 1090-1 and it does not show a tilt. That schematic does not follow my machine very well, but it's all I have.


So, I have a few questions.


Does anyone have a schematic for the 1090-10?
Does anyone know if there should be a bulb in the tilt and what Lamp # it is? I plan on looking for a tilt relay...


It looks like CoinTracker.Com is a good source for these lamps. Anyone else that might have them? Any good reason to leave my lamps as is, and keep it original vintage?

have all the bulbs on my ebay store 151002677995 is for the 455 flasher - from that listing you can find the other bulbs - 47 is a better bulb than the 44.

for the schematic you need W-1046-2131 ... MGM casino version of the 1091 game ("jillions"?) and is a 25 stop machine (vs. 22 stop for most 1090 games).

looks like the reel tapes had  lion head, cub and mgm symbols.  If you don't have that, you could have a mash-up game that the 1090-10 plate doesn't apply to.

I don't have that schematic, but have other versions of the 1090 if you don't have anything.  the 1090-7 and 1090-1 schem both show the tilt light connected between wire 20 (blue) and 34 (yellow/green), and it turns on when the hopper cut-off relay loses power.

all the non-flourescent lamps are on a 6VAC circuit so you can use 44, 47, 51, 55, 63, 455, etc.  The difference (ignoring the flashing on the 455, the bigger base on the 63 and the glass shape) is the brightness.  Brighter = hotter, and hotter = more likely to cause ink cracking/burns on the glass if on for a long time.

if you are replacing with leds, all that matters is the 6VAC and how bright you want it to be.  Heat is not an issue.   44's are brighter than 47's, so if you want more illumination, get led's that are equiv to 44's.   The pinball people should have info on led substitutions, recommendations and sources.

Yes it is the MGM with the Lions on the reel tapes. It all works good and I will look into replacing the original lamps with leds. I do have the correct colors on the tilt light. I will follow and see if I can light the lamp by "Tilting" the machine...


 I am also interested in the $1 Domination light on the door. Any idea where or when this light is on and if it was originally set to blink?


I have 1 print for it, but it's for the 1090-1. I could not find the tilt lamp or the $1 light on my print...

the tilt light on the 1090-1 schem is at H-11.


the $1 denomination under the center reel I would guess is just general illumination (GI).  If so, the socket should have blue wire 20 and yellow wire 30 on it.


I have a 1090-7 schem which is at least an mgm game.  Many times the variations are jackpot handling, whether t has a bell/tower, or reel wiring differences due to payback percentage.

fwiw, if a lamp will fit in the socket, you can stick it in and see what happens.  If the lamp is rated for a lower voltage, it'll burn out like a fuse.  If it's rated for a much higher voltage, it may be too dim to see anything.  If it's close enough, it'll light at some brightness.  It won't bother the machine no matter what. 


a more scientific approach is to know or measure the voltage on the socket and look up lamps and their parameters.  The socket style for most lamps is mini-bayonette.

Thank You for your reply. I did find the tilt switch due to your direction. I missed that on the print.


I will check the voltage on the tilt and domination lamps. I'm sure that it will be 6 volts since both have a 20 (Blue) wire on them.


On the $1 bulb, it has a 20 wire on it and a 46 Green with a brown tracer. I did not find it on the 1090-1 or the 1090-7 schematics. I will spend some time with it today and hand-over-hand the wires and figure it out. Your statement of GI makes sense too...

I followed the 46 (Green with Brown Tracer) to the call attendant button. Pushed it and the $1 light bulb lit up. How easy was that?


Now to install a lamp in the tilt and toggle the hopper. If it works then I will place an order for my new LED lamps and replace the old, hot incandescent ones. Lower power draw, brighter lights, less heat. NO real issues to put the vintage bulbs back in, if I ever want to see it as MORE Original...
