PE+ hold buttons light up but won’t hold cards?
« on: April 08, 2021, 12:11:19 PM »
Hello, this is my first video poker game I have purchased. I picked it up for $50 got it home and the monitor was bad. Purchased a rebuilt chassis from Amechanic and I know have a working monitor. Could not clear any errors turned out to be a bad test switch which I replaced so now I am finally able to play a game. Hand is dealt but I am unable to hold any cards. I double checked the wiring and it seems to be correct. All buttons light up and all buttons work except for the 5 hold buttons. This is a new set of buttons with LEDs from Spin inc. I was concerned that these buttons did not have a spot to attach the ground wires but was told they were not needed. I am so close to having a fully functioning machine any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

If there's no ground, you can't close the switch!!!  Post a photo of what the switch wiring looks like.

Obvious question did you rewire the buttons exactly as were the old button?,  any misplaced wire will mess it up.

If there's no ground, you can't close the switch!!!

For what it's worth, on the PE+ the solid green ground wire on the buttons doesn't actually do anything. On my bartop machine the metal "ground pin" that the wire connects to is just molded into the plastic housing of the button -- it doesn't connect to anything.

MazzMayhem:

1: do you still have the old buttons and do those work when connected?

2: see this recent post with pretty much the same issue.

Note that the hold buttons are wired in series. If even one switch is wired incorrectly it will screw up the rest of the switches in the series.

Thanks for the response guys. I referred to a old post on how the button wires are supposed to connect and I have rechecked the wiring. I will check once again and about what you were saying about the grounds no actually doing anything I was told the same thing from Spin inc when I purchased them

Unfortunately I no longer have the original ground wire does anyone know of a way to connect these switches with a ground? My electrical skills are limited.

Check the test switch you replaced, it's in the hold button circuits. If you did not install the correct switch or missed the wires... has to have NC NO C connections.

Verify the wiring one more time and I think you will get it working.

Hold switch wiring looks pretty good to me as stated above, but may not be correct, the NC to C connections are good so if you do an ohms measurement it would look OK (Typo on button 3 NO blue/grey, but looks correct and button 3 and button 4 say they both have NO white/purple wires...)

If you have the buttons going to the wrong MPU connections it will hold the wrong cards ---

HOLD 1 = white/yellow
HOLD 2 = white/black
HOLD 3 = white/purple(violet)
HOLD 4 = white/red
HOLD 5 = white/brown

Tony

If you have the white/xxxx wires going to the correct J200 pin and the NC go to the C connections it will work. Kind of obvious - meter measurements will tell you what you have, you can use the input test function if no meter...

Schematic is from PE+/S+ manual NOTE - HOLD 1, HOLD 3, HOLD 4, HOLD 5, HOLD 2 in order on schematic...

PS: you really don't need the ground wire - won't do anything even if you are able to hook something up. Plastic switches - not really any way to get shocked. No metal to hook a ground.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Per an old post of mine, Hold 1 (the left-most hold button) should not have an open leg on the switch. For what it's worth, that's on a bartop machine. I don't know if the wiring is identical on your machine, though.

I started at the self test switch looked at the three wires and saw my error  . . I had the NO and the C wire switched. Putting everything back together and I’m pretty confident we got this. I will update
