S2000 finding out how the machine is set up
« on: November 15, 2023, 09:50:06 PM »
Hello all,  I have a new to me S2000 Emerald Rose machine. When I got it the machine would not boot up. It had the Displays Netplex link is down error. I sent the board to a member here for repair. I got the board back today and got it installed. I got the call attendant so I keyed it until I got hold reset button for 3 seconds. Then the close door please. It booted right up. It accepts bills but when I try to put quarters in it they just fall right back in the coin tray. My question is can I get into the machine to find out how the settings are setup? Mainly to see if the machine is setup to take coins. If I can do you get to that by pressing the reset button on board or with the reset key? The machine works great besides not accepting coins. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

When you say you "keyed it", I think you mean you turned the jackpot reset key and didn't key the machine with a keychip.  If you press the self test button the on the front of the MPU and use the button deck to navigate to 7.2.5 it will tell you if Coinless mode is enabled or not.  If you need to change it, then you'll have to key the machine with a keychip to disable it.  This assumes you have SG363 GME's installed on the MPU.  If you have different ones post the number.

Have you tried removing the sample coin in the comparitor and replacing it with another one?  Sometimes that helps, as well as turning the sensitivity adjustment on the comparitor fully counterclockwise.

Thanks for the reply.  I did mean turning the Jackpot reset key. I did turn the sensitivity all the way counterclockwise with no results. I will try a new coin in the comparitor and get the numbers off of the chips in the morning. I do have the clear and set  chips that I ordered from someone here that are suppose to be delivered tomorrow. If I have  a different number on my 2 chips than you posted. I will post back here before I do the clear and set. You do have to use the clear chip before you can use the set chip correct?  Thanks

Ok.

No. Don't use the clear chip unless you need to change the accounting denomination.  It will only create more problems for you.  You don't even need to use the keychip unless you need to change a keychip menu setting.  If you need to change one then you need to clear the credits on the machine first.  You use the cashout button to do that.

This board has SG598 chips in it not SG363 . Ok for the good news I switched the quarter in the comparitor and it accepts every quarter now and gives a credit. The issue now is most quarters go to the hopper but some times say 1 out of 25 maybe more every once in awhile it will go to the overflow tube or what ever you call it. It does give a credit even on the quarters that go to the over flow tube. Do you know what would cause this issue? Thanks

Glad to hear the comparitor is working now  :applause:

There's a diverter solenoid just below the coin in optics that diverts coins from the hopper to the overflow tube when the hopper is full.  There's a brass screw with a wire attached to it on the hopper bin that allows you to adjust the coin level and when the coins reach it and touch the screw it energizes the diverter.  For home use many people just simply unplug the diverter solenoid so the coins always drop into the hopper.  There's a two wire connector that goes to the solenoid usually tucked in behind the comparitor.  Simply unplug it and that will take care of the problem.

Yeah I might end up doing your suggestion but I really like to have things working the way there suppose to. Just a curse I guess. Is there any troubleshooting that I could do to find out why it is doing that? Does the two wire plug you are talking about have a green wire and the other green with blue tracer?   Thanks

No, it has two orange wires and should be behind the comparitor mounting bracket.

You can test the diverter solenoid operation in the self test menu.  It's in 4.2.1.1.

I unplugged that connector and it is worse now. It was about 7 out of 25. Thanks

Yes, that's the connector I was referring to.

Maybe the solenoid plunger is sticking?  It has a spring on it that fully extends the plunger and diverter gate when the solenoid is de-energized.  Under normal conditions the diverter solenoid is not energized and the coins fall into the hopper.  When the hopper is full the solenoid energizes and the diverter gate guides coins to the overflow chute.  I'd pull the comparitor out and inspect the diverter.  Use your finger to move the solenoid plunger to the energized position and release it to make sure it moves freely.  It could be getting hung up on a wire, paper, or some other foreign object.  Also make sure the mounting screws are tight, etc. It's a simple device so it shouldn't be real difficult to figure out why it's not working properly.

Tilt, you are correct. The solenoid was getting stuck. So I took all that stuff off and cleaned it up and adjusted everything. I put 50 quarters thru it and all went to the hopper. Since I do know it is working properly now I did go ahead and unhook that plug again so I am sure that problem wont pop back up. I dont think it would but with it being a home machine the diverter is not needed like you said. Thanks for everything

Glad you got it fixed .  Yes, on a home machine you know how full the hopper bin is and can remove some coins if it gets too full.  Sometimes when the solenoid is energized it makes a humming sound that gets pretty old fast.  A lot of home stands don't have a hole in the top of the stand for the coins to fall through either.  I think disconnecting it is the best option for most.
