UBA 14 Bill Validator Tilt

I have a UBA 14 SS Bill Validator installed in and IGT AVP. It was powered off for quite some time. Now upon power up, it cycles the bill validator several times and than the Following Message "Device Offiline - Bill Validator Tilt - Program Signature Not Returned".
I have attempted cleaning both the head and cash can with a dry towel and compressed air.
I do not have a spare cash can to try so I am wondering what my next steps should be.
Is it worth purchasing a cash can or anything else to attempt.

The serial cable that goes from the mpu to the backplane may be loose. This wouldn't apply if your uba is flashed as id028/usb What model is your machine. Picture?

It is flashed as an ID-028 and it is USB connected. i have tried moving the USB cable to another port but that did not help. It is an IVP Generation 2 cabinet running an AVP 3.0 CPU
What would you like a picture of?

"Program Signature Not Returned" indicates to me that the MPU is not getting a returned CRC or checksum that it wants.
or a possible bad, flaky USB connection too.
You may need to have the bv re-flashed.
The question remains tho....why would it lose programming just by being "powered off for quite some time."?
That tells me that maybe some battery had died or perhaps went below a threshold voltage...while it was off.
I've heard that if you just leave the machine on for a while, thing's should re-charge somewhat and the errors may go away.
I know....that's wishful thinking right?  :rotfl:

Anyways, an UBA-14-SS bill validator head with ID-028, should have a CRC/checksum value of [650A] - as shown in this sheet I have.

I'm not sure if you can go into some "version" acccounting page on your machine, to verify what CRC the BV has?
If the CRC matches, then you KNOW the signature programming is good, and that it's something else.

Simpler solutions may also be just a re-seating of the cashbox, or checking if the receptor pins behind the back of the BV where it gets pushed into & connected are okay and not bent....Try wiggling the BV harness to rule out bad harness?

One other odd thing I noticed upon power up (it was powered off for quite some time but was plugged in) was that all of the games were missing from the menu.
It is an IGT AVP 3.0
I was able to use the EKEY 7 and add the games back in so it did lose some programming
I will put everything back in the machine and leave it powered on for a while.
I will also look and see if I can find the CRC for the validator.

Until you get this machine running the way you want, I'd just install one simple game for now....just to make things easier.
Once it's fixed, you can add all the games you want.
But yeah, leave it on overnight or so, and see if things look better.

Leaving a machine plugged in, but powered off for an extended amount of time, causes a myriad of problems.
Seems like different memory chips containing settings and programming got corrupted....this happened to a LOT of casinos after Covid.
I believe that with using the Diagnostics USB, you can see what voltages the batteries have at this moment?
There's the rechargeable batteries in a pack, batteries on the PCI card, and a battery on the MPU itself.

Since some programming was lost, I will go in and verify all of the settings for the Bill Validator and currency.

I left the machine on for a while and the good news is that I no longer see the CRC error.
The bad news is the bill validator is still not working.
I checked the settings and everything looks correct
When I remove/insert the bill validator and cash can, it cycles a few times and than the LED flashes red 4 times.
The following error is displayed "BILL VALIDATOR TILT" VALIDATOR JAM ERROR"
I tired cleaning the bill validators optics and cash can again but it did not help.

Sounds like some batteries got a bit of recharge...that's good.

Somewhere there's a sheet that explains what those 4 red flashes are for.

The green light is off. So it looks like it is a stacker encoder/ jam in acceptor error. There is no jammed bills or printouts the the stacker or validator.

Something is wrong with either the billbox or the head.
Betcha it's a dirty sensor somewhere.
This is the blue valiators that are like...upside down?  :scratch-head_2:
I have those ones too....I find those get dirty easy.
Gotta find a can of compressed air and blow crap outta there.
Wash optics with warm, soapy water....do NOT use anything that has alcohol in it,unless you feel like drinking?  :drinker:  :rotfl:

Here's a photo of mine.
You will see that I drew four green arrows pointing to the optical eyes that NEED to "see" each other, or you'll get all kinds of different "stacker" errors.
Two are on the cashbox, and two are coming out of the BV head.

I have just been using a dry towel but I will give it a good cleaning with soap and water.
I also have a few cans of compressed and I will give that a go.

Well I have cleaned both the Bill Acceptor and Cash Can multiple times. I have also tried blowing it out with multiple cans of compressed air but no luck.
Not sure where to go from here.

In Reply #13, I gave you a link to the tests on Page 5...I'd run thru all the tests.
It might help you pin point the problem.
That's all I know about these UBA's.
Maybe someone else has a better idea what to do?
