new to s2000 , need advice
« on: January 12, 2016, 02:47:22 PM »
looking at a s2000 unit. its a 5 times pay red white and blue. i'll attach pics and the plate from the side.  it has a open door M error.  looking thru the archives ,it might be a battery problem.  it has a fixed handle, so i believe its an earlier board? 504 or something? anyway,  i expect the coin battery to be bad, but there is also a varta battery that may be leaking. my questions are, i read on some boards replace the coin battert and just remove that varta battery and you are good. others posts say something about bridging terminals or removing components in addition to removing the varta battery ?  i have some 3.6 lithium satt batteries on hand, ive replace ni-cads with them, using a blocking diode. can i do that here or will it go dead quickly?

also, in looking from the archives, it appears that it should be able to reset without clear and key chips, unlike a s plus.  should i buy key and clear chips just in case, and if so, what ones would i need.  finally, where can i find info on the key/clear procedure, and moving around the menus? from the info on this site, ive gotten pretty good with S plus, but dont want to purchase a s2000 without knowing whats what.

thanks all

I wouldn't get to excited about the door open message. It sounds like the board is definitely a 500 series which means you can just remove the green battery and call it a day. Look at the board before purchase if possible and see if there is corrosion around the green battery which could indicate trace damage to the optics circuit, it may just have a door optics problem not related to the board though. Worst case, maybe you end up buying a new MPU for it. It's a good haggling point on sale price though. As far as clear/key chips you shouldn't need either after a battery change but they are good to have. I recommend people get key 45 and clear 224, but on that machine a key 31 and clear 97 would be sufficient

I haven't found a machine yet that they don't work on. If you see something obvious, keep your mouth shut till the deal is done. I've had prices increase on me before because I pointed out the problem and fix before I bought. If you're not willing to do basic research before you sell then you don't care what you get for it anyway

a guy on ebay has the 224 chip, but only a 31, not a 45 chip.  another guy on ebay has a 45, but for 20 bucks. will a 31 and a 224 do the job if needed ?

thanks

Order from one of the vendors on the homepage here or place a WTB in the classifieds. Someone will step up and your odds of getting a chip that works improves

Go get the Mac nine! If it is under $200-300, you're fine! Really not a big deal, throw in a new MPU or power supply and play the heck out of it. Worst case, $150? And that is WORST case! Best case is, he doesn't have the door shut all the way, or just has bad optics ($10-15).
