Bally 6000 Sound Options
« on: April 27, 2016, 08:42:14 PM »
Hi -

I am digging through a couple Bally 6000's, first time on these.  Wherever they came from did a number on them from a wiring standpoint, an incredible amount of extraneous connectors, wires, etc.

Thankfully I have gotten them working (except the Mikohn progressives, saving that for another day) but am befuddled by a Bally sound amp (marked "114468 Rev C") that is in each of them connected to the upper speakers, but nothing else.

Sound works, but I am only getting it out of the lower speaker.  Both have what I think is the Pro Sound II board, and the two upper speakers in a roundtop.  The amp is connected to the upper speakers as output, but has an input cord and a power cord that are not connected anywhere.  I don't see any connection on the Pro Sound II, and no power connection for the type of cord that's there - the round printer-like push in power connector.

Can't tell if the casino upgraded the cabinet to this, or if this is the usual setup, but in my searching, haven't come across these Bally amps so far.  Any thoughts?

Also, can these games be configured for any different sounds than the standard Bally fare?  Was hoping they would at least have the "announce" effect for the key symbols like with the In the Money symbols.  The games I'm working on are Double Black and White Jackpot and Blazing 7's Wild (pay table is like an early version of Quick Hit with the Wilds).

Thanks for any help!

Carl

Here is the pic of the sound amp I found in both 6000's I have.

Left connector is power (the printer/push in connector type), next is aux in, right gray connector goes to the upper speakers.

Power and aux in were not connected to anything, and I don't see anywhere they could be.

Only getting sound from the lower speaker with this config, trying to figure this out!

Thanks!

Carl

You are correct on the up-grade part as for the most part these were used for I-view systems.  I would suggest disconnect it all and restore ALL wires to factory positions.  Surprised  these was on 6000 series. I ran into this on alpha 1 and 2 machines and had to remove and re-connect all wiring to proper locations.  Here is a pic of one of mine (new).  If you trace the molex plug marked audio on the box you will find they do not go anywhere.  You have to remove all and connect up to the factory amp.  Usually Bally did not hack/cut to install this system unless someone else other than them did.

Thanks for the reply.  Where do the top speakers normally get wired into the Pro Sound II board?

I'm guessing that's the answer, but don't see where they are supposed to connect.  Thanks!

I had at least 50 of the 6000's in the past.  You should be able to REMOVE all that player tracking/I-view stuff and it will make sense.  They wire tie things back also so you have to look.  If it is full of butt-connectors and splices than you can cancel my posts,  But I doubt it.  You will see the factory harness wire-tied up in there and you will see the bogus audio leads from the box going to the upper speakers-etc.  Check it out.

It certainly was a wire mess in there.  Will check it out.  Thanks!

That was it!  Amidst the sea of wires and connectors related to the amp, finally found where the original speaker wires came in.  Top speakers now working on both games, and a lot cleaner inside those top boxes.  :)  Thanks for sending me on the right path!
