s+ game conversion

To convert a machine like a Double Diamond to a Double Diamond Deluxe am I right in thinking all that is needed is a couple of game eproms, 2 pieces of glass and reel strips?

Also, was the Dbl Diamond Deluxe theme used on S+ and S2000 machines?

Final question: As in Dbl Diamond Deluxe and Red, White & Blue Deluxe was the nudge feature used on any IGT slot where the word "Deluxe" was in the game theme name?

Yes to convert to DDD. You need the SPchip (game chip) and the SSchip (reel chip) glass and strips. DDD is a type 5 game so you could use a type 0,1,4,5  type chip. Ex. 1271 for 10Mhz or 1272 for 16Mhz. I would guess there is an S2000 version of the game. I believe all Deluxe games are nudge games. Clear and set too, just in case. Set for sure for the b/v.

You know Rok I was just thinking, Double Diamond is a type 0 game. Chances are the game chip you have in supports type 5 games also. Check and see. If it does you wouldn't even have to change the game chip only the reel chip, strips and glass.

I don't actually have the machine as yet, was offered a Double Diamond and got to thinking about making it into a Deluxe, one of my wife's favorite games. Wanted to make sure I knew what would be needed to convert it if we decided to do it. I did see something somewhere about sometimes just needing to change one chip instead of both, depending on what was already on the mpu.

What's the big advantage of getting an S-2000 instead of the S+? I know the S+ is the older model and it is built like a tank for long-lasting service, I assume the S-2000 is built similarly but maybe has improvements like better sound. The S-2000 machines tend to sell for more than the S+, so I guess that is an advantage of the S+. But from what I've heard I could convert any S+ or S-2000 to a Double Diamond Deluxe, and that some S+ game chips will work in an S-2000, sort of a legacy compatibility thing. Would a player see any real difference between an S+ DDD and an S-2000 DDD?

Better sound and backlit reels are the only real advantage. To a lesser degree, S2000 parts are easier to come by and you can put a printer and tito into an S2000 if you're so inclined

Are the glass sizes (award and belly) different between an S+ and an S2000? Thinking I could be watching for glass as it becomes available, maybe use it on either machine model I might end up getting. Or maybe on this game theme that isn't a worry, glass is nearly always available.

Double Diamond glass is pretty common. As cowboygames said the sounds, reels, tito if you want. But even the basic sound on an S2000 is better than an S+. Not even going to the enhanced sound. I enjoy my S+ machines as much as the S2000. Think of it as a Camaro and a Corvette both cool but one has more bells and whistles but costs more. You are probably going to get an S+ for less money, unless you find a great deal. Just my 2 cents.

This is true if you want to convert to Double Diamond Haywire, not Deluxe.  The Deluxe version has completely different reel strip symbols, as they have the intertwined diamond in the bars to indicate the nudge direction.

I just converted my boring-as-hell Double Diamond to a Wild Cherry. The existing game chip worked and I changed the reel chip. It's MUCH more fun now and hits way more often (single line) than my three line DD.
As for sound, yeah the S2000 IS nicer, especially the enhanced sound but I still love the old "deeeeee doodle doodle deeeeeeee" sound from the old S plus! Reminds me more of the good times when the money came out!

I like the single line games also. I don't care for playing 3 and getting 2 back.  Glad you got it changed over.

to answer a few of your questions,  SS chips can be used in an S-2000, you have to use a SB1000 chip with them, also you are locked into that paytable, you cannot select from several as with a regular SB chip.

all S+ glass will fit a S-2000, 9", 16" or RT.  reel glass is different, award and belly are good.

deluxe glass is available, some types harder than other to find, and yes a little more expensive.  strips fall into the same category,  they are out there, even the back lit  version ,again could be expensive. 

S+ strips will fit a non back lit s-2000 reel assembly directly,  S+ strips have to be trimmed in order to fit correctly onto a s-2000 back lit reel assembly.
