Change, cash out, bet one credit, spin buttons are not active
« on: September 30, 2016, 08:23:00 AM »
We have an IGT S2000 Big Times Pay machine that we have been having problems with.  A slot tech told us we had a bad chip on U67 and needed to replace the board.  We purchased a new board and cannot get the change, cash out, bet one credit and spin buttons to work.  We can get to the key chip config but cannot do anything after that as the buttons are not active...any suggestions on what we should look for or what the problem could be?  After doing some research I see one of the first things to check is if the machine has any credits...so we have checked that and we are sure that it does not.

I'm confused. So this "tech" sold you a replacement MPU board and the same problem is happening? Or, was there a different problem before, and now this is a new one?
When you first turn on the machine, does it go through a "checklist" on the display? And, are there any error codes on the front?
Another thing, is (POWER OFF) check your physical connections inside, especially on the inside of the door. And if you replaced the MPU board, make sure it's fully seated into the socket. Sometimes you really have to give them a firm push, again make sure the power is off while you do this.

first thing i would try is the door io card. U67 is part of the senet communications system and so is the io card. i am seeing this failure a lot lately. when that chip goes it is usually because one of the senet devices has failed or someone unplugs or plunges in one of the senet devices while the machine is on.

I agree with vtyler I would replace the door I/O card. Also confirm that the micro switches on the buttons are actually being depressed when a button is pushed. ( Not usual when it's more than one button not working) but I would check them anyway.

Well, its a long story but we took it to a slot tech for repair because the reels were not spinning.  He said there was a problem with the board.  Because we lived out of state, we left the board with him and took the machine home.  He said he would fix the board and send it back to us.  After waiting a month he had not sent the board back and was not returning our calls.  Finally he sent the board back with a note on it that said U67 is bad and i cannot fix it.  I then talked with someone else and they said we would need a key 17, so we bought that and when we tried to do the key config, the buttons were not active, so we couldn't do anything.  We called back the company that sold us the key 17 and ended up talking to a different tech that told us if U67 is bad, then the board is your problem, it needs to be replaced.  So we purchased a new board but still have the same issue, we can get to the key config but cannot use the buttons to do anything.

We have a new board and U67 on the new board is good.  If we replace the door IO card will that fix the senet devices too? I'm not sure what the Senet device is.  Sorry, we are really not familiar with this other than what I have been able to google.  Thanks!

We have confirmed that the micro switches are being depressed when pushed.  Thanks for the tip!

Most likely the door I/O will fix your problem. Also I'm not convinced your original MPU is bad if it is doing the same thing. ( You may now have a good spare).
Senet is a daisy chain of items all linked together in a series. Like coin in, displays, buttons etc. They are all controlled by the door I/O card(s). If the card is bad or one of the other items on that daisy chain are bad issues like you are having occur. Generally if the card is good it will display some kind of error on the display. Without an error I would suspect the card itself.

the problem with diagnosing senet devices is they all chain together and sometimes you get false errors so i can not guarantee that replacing the door io card will fix the problem its just the most likely candidate. if you just have the one machine and no spare parts this could get expensive to diagnose yourself. the only way i know to find what part or parts went bad is to replace them one at a time until the problem goes away.

So we purchased a new board but still have the same issue, we can get to the key config but cannot use the buttons to do anything.

normally when u67 goes bad the reels will spin backwards i have never seen them not spin at all. if your still not getting any reels spinning and your buttons don't work you may have a totally different problem than i first thought can you describe what the machine does. and what you get on the displays it may help us figure out what is wrong.

The reels do spin now.  The only issue we have now is that we cannot use the buttons.  In addition, the bill collector does not take any money either (it is not lit up and does not even try to take a bill), like its not active either just like the buttons. We followed the instructions for using the key 17 (they said we would need to use the key 17 after switching to the new board) and we can get to key config but cannot do anything in that menu as the buttons do not work.  We'll try switching out the i/o board and see if that helps.  I think you are right...this could get costly and very time consuming...we've already gone round and round with it for 2 months now and still not any further than we were 2 months ago.  Thank you all for the help and suggestions, I appreciate it.

the bill collector may not work because the machine is locked up the 2 devices only share the 13v power rail, but if that was faulty you would have more problems than you have. the machine would probably not boot at all. i have never had to key a machine when swapping the mpu just clear the board id mismatch and good to go. i would say door io is first step.

Thank you all who replied to this post.  We should have came here first before doing anything else to our machine.  We bought a new door I/O card as you guys suggested and the problem was fixed!!!!  Yay!
