Glass "frosting"
« on: October 08, 2016, 06:05:15 PM »
Is there a way to restore the glass frosting that is on the outside of the glass? See pic.

Yes....i have done it before...it takes a whole lot of painters tape to outline the letters....a whole lot of patience and a spray can of frost paint....it can be done...a few beers doesn't hurt either.... :cool_thumb_up: :cool_thumb_up:

LOL! I was thinking the same process. Darell said you can spray the back with the frosting and it looks good. Since this machine is for sale and not for keeps I may go his way. The beers come first in all projects!

Yeah, definitely the back ..even if you were going to keep the machine ,with the frost on the back you dont have to worry about scratching  it off every time you cleaned the glass. I never could figure out why they frosted the front of the glass  :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:

I second that. Spray the back side. Works great!

Thanks for all of the input. I've got some Rustoleum on the way. I found it pretty cheap on Amazon. I had thought of this product before but had not thought of spraying the back. Sometimes the simplest things escape us...or some of us, anyway. I'll post before and afters if anyone is interested.

I just got in a RWB and I need to do the same thing to its belly glass.. I don't worry about taping off the back side. I just give the general area a few coats of frost after I've cleaned the back side.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

I have a RWB round top glass sitting on my window sill.  Till this thread came up I never noticed that the frost was on the front?

I'm always skeptical of mucking with the back glass paint other than maybe adding a layer of clear coat?  Up till now, I've only dealt with flaking pinball back glass though.

The front frost appear to give a more 3'D look?  Would it make more sense to mask and acid etch the front frosted section so that it's permanent?

I actually just heard of someone etching the outside. Painstaking process. I have not seen the results with my own eyes though.

It's kind of hard to see the frost effect in the pic but it shows up well in person.

Is that the same glass?  What did you do to the flaking blue strip at the bottom or is that PS'd out?

LOL! If by PS'd out you mean Photoshop, no sir. What I did for now was to put some black electrical tape on the back (once I cleaned things up a bit with a razor blade). My plan is to replace it with some blue vinyl if I could find such a thing. Honestly, this machine will be for sale soon and I may have gone as far as I am willing to go. The cool back story is that I bought this machine for $25 because it had no MPU board. Then once I got it home I found $7 worth of quarters in the bottom cabinet. I have maybe $50 into it at this point.  :applause:
