« on: August 31, 2018, 02:54:54 PM »
Can someone show me what the large PLCC chips look like, I need to re'seat these but what do they look like? Also if I just re'seat those will I have to do game set up again? This is a turky shoot video slot
Thanks!

A PLCC chip is square-shaped, it has leads on all 4 sides. They fit into a square socket with contacts on all 4 sides. The PLCC chip is inserted into the socket and pressed downward evenly. To remove it takes a special tool that lifts the chip evenly out of the socket. The tool has 2 arms that insert into opposite corners of the socket and lifts the chip out. If you try to remove the chip by prying it up on one side only it will often break the socket.

A 44 pin PLCC chip is a popular size but they come in smaller and larger sizes. Some PLCC chips are soldered directly to the board, but from what you are referring to it sounds like the chips will be in sockets. Look for square sockets with square chips in them on your board. Was the advice you got because they think the chip is making bad contact? That doesn't usually happen with PLCC chips due to the force holding them in place on all 4 sides.

The PLCC chip will have a little dimple-hole or a cutoff corner so you know which way it goes into the socket. Before removing it you want to find this so you can get it reinserted properly. Many chips have both. The dimple-hole is often in the center along one side. It marks pin 1 on the chip.

I don't know if removing and reseating them will cause the machine to need setup again. My guess would be no, the setup settings are contained in cmos ram somewhere else on the board and it is battery backed-up. But I'm not knowledgeable on this model of machine.

Was told that re'seating this/those made the touchscreen no comm error go away

I see, hopefully that will solve the problem. Let us know what happens, will be helpful to anyone else with a similar problem.

NOPE, that didn't work, I removed all three PLCC chips that were removable with a couple of dental picks, but that didn't help me, so I guess I will have to send the board off to Alan at K-Lar and have it fixed, unless someone has any other ideas?
Thank You

Do you have another working board to try, to prove if the problem is with the touchscreen itself, or with the board?

No, but I had a couple of complete monitors and they all did the same thing with the same errors or tilts, in talking with someone in the bizz, he said he ran into the same thing and a new MPU solved it. On the other had I talked with Alan at K-lar and he told me that he solved this one time by reseating those PLCC chips. Really nothing left for me to try i guess, but a replacement MPU or sending mine in to have it fixed.
Thank You
