Bally EM 1115-18 problems
« on: August 28, 2019, 05:49:58 PM »
Put coin in and coin accepted light comes on, pull handle, the reels spin and coin accepted light goes off, then when I release handle and coin accepted light comes back on (this is without putting a coin in).  this happens on 1 or 2 times out of 20, the other spins the coin accepted light does not come back on and handle will not release.

thanks
Bob

Try cleaning the contacts on the coin relay first.

Bottom left of the reel mechanism.

Also there may be some contacts out of adjustment.

I cleaned all contacts on left side of reel assembly.  Still adds coin sometimes.

I did notice that it doesn't happen if I pull handle fast.  Only seems to happen when I pull handle a bit slower.  I cleaned all switches on the handle assembly too.

thanks

Still adding credit after spins.

put coin in (coin accepted light comes on)
pull handle, 1/2 down coin accepted light goes off, toward end of pull coin accepted light comes back on (you can then pull handle without putting in a coin).  The coin accepted light goes off with next pull and doesn't come back on until another coin is acceped.

i've cleaned all contacts on the right side of reel mech, all contacts on handle assemble.

any thoughts/suggestions?

thanks

Would it be possible to post a photo of the left side of the reel mechanism A,B and C switches.

Could be the coin relay latch switch is not latching. As you pull the handle the reel mechanism pushes the C switch back. It should mechanically latch then unlatch with the next coin.

Sounds like yours is pushing back thus the light goes off like it should, but if the switch doesn’t latch it will show coin accepted.

Here's a couple of pics of switches with handle in up position.

Just to be clear when the coin accepted light comes back on the handle release coin is pulled in too allowing handle to be pulled

David, thanks for your help/time, I appreciate it.

Insert coin light stays on until the last coin in played.
The first coin in, the coin accepted light stays on through 1-5 coins.
When the handle is pulled the coin accepted light goes off.

I just fixed a machine with the same problem but can't remember exactly what I did.
Check the coin in switch trip wire it may be dragging or stuck in the down position.

Attached three photos of the coin switch, latched and unlatched.
You can clearly see the contacts open and closed.

In the photo you sent some of the contact looked a little close when they should of been open.
The leafs have been tweaked and bent. They should be as straight as possible.

I would get the coin switch contacts back in shape then check each one for continuity.
The problem may be else where, but by cleaning and adjusting the coin in switch it can be eliminated from the problem.
Compare the contacts in photo 3.

I straightened up the coin relay contacts but it didn't help.  I then cleaned the the set of contacts behind the handle plunger on the right side of reel assemble and it now works properly.  The coin accepted light goes off every time and the handle relay doesn't stay engaged either.

Only problem left is certain payouts.
2 coin payouts properly
5 coin payouts is only 4 (1 short)
10 coin payouts if only 9 (1 short)
20 coin payouts and higher are correct.

if this a zero switch adjustment??

Sounds like you need to low your zero stop bumper. I do it by 1/4-1/2 turns at a time.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.

Great, dash pot switch needed attention.

Might want to check the coin chute after a 10 or 14 coin pay for a stuck coin before doing any adjustments

Under pay could be caused by the payout step up unit riding off the contact receiver strips to soon.
Or the strips need cleaning.

Adjust the cam stop bumper to allow the cam to move slightly farther back.
Sounds like the contacts are really close to where they’re suppose to be as it only fails on two payouts.

New wrinkle!!

Machine has 2 different payout units.
One is mounted to hopper (it doesn't have a zero switch).  his unit appears to make payouts where cherries are involved.  Payouts for 2 pay correctly.  All other payments are 1 coin short.  Pic 1 is this unit.  Pic 2 is position after a 5 coin payout (only paid 4).

2nd payout unit (pic 3) is mounted to right of hopper on slot bottom.  This unit has a zero switch and I believe it makes all payouts that don't include cherries.  All payouts are correct (at least I think so).

thanks

Very interesting, it appears in pic #2 that the contacts have moved to far. Almost onto the 7 pay.
There must be some sort of adjustment as to retard the cam a little.

David, I don't see a way to do it but I'll keep looking at it.  The second pic above was where it ends on a 5 payout but it only pays 4 (1 short).
Have you ever seen a setup like this before?

No, I haven’t, Is there a step up and a reset coil on that unit. If it has a reset, it either returns to a stop or possibly it ratchets back to a flat spot on the ratchet gear.

Very interesting set up.

I have no idea what the one stepper unit does? It has no way to stop the spiral cam? Your payout unit has to be the one with the zero stop.

In the photo it appears the smaller payouts aren’t wired into this unit.
Thus relying on the second unit, kind of strange as the first unit is capable.
Also the wires on the normal unit are soldered to the outside, normally there installed from behind.

attached are 2 pics of back side of payout unit from hopper.
there is a rigid stop for unit that is not adjustable.  The stop is near the 2 sets of contacts.  Contacts are N.O. and close when unit starts payout.

Okay, since there doesn’t appear to be any adjustment.
I have done this before, but as a last resort.

When the contacts run to far off or off to soon.
In the past I’ve added a little more arch to the blades in question.
Thus bringing them back to point where they have just stepped off the receiver.
Need to arch them in such a way as to keep the pressure on the tip of the contact.
Using a meter to make sure there not on the the silver receiver strips when finished.

I would run the machine and set it to pay the five coins when only four come out.
Then make the adjustment. Use you camera as to compare before and after.

David, I shortened (arched the bottom blade) and it is now working great.  I ran payout of 5, 7, 10, and 20.  they all paid out correctly.  2 payouts still work too.

I did hit a payout that had 3 plums (20 )on line 3 and 1 cherry (2) on line 2.  It paid out 22 which is also correct.  I then checked the 2 payout units and the one on the hopper was at 2 and the other payout was on 20.  So, both payout units will work on the same spin.  Hope this all make sense.

thanks for all the help!!!
Bob

Happy to hear it’s working okay now.

Okay, that makes sense now, the possibility of getting payouts on two different lines.
Thus the extra unit.

Have a machine with one payout step up unit that can pay on lines 1, 2 or 3, but it’s jackpot only.
So no fruit/ bar combinations, which would be a little more complex.
