StarTrek Enterprise BB3
« on: March 25, 2020, 09:42:05 AM »
I have installed my BB3 CPU back into machine after not using it for some time. All games I have tried so far work fine (games that work on the dual 22" monitors) however I tried to load up StarTrek enterprise with just the dual 22" monitors (which I figured would not work) because a 32 inch monitor is needed. I lost Top Box connection with the dual 22" monitors when trying to load so I cleared and plugged 32" DVI monitor. This 32 inch monitor picture is pretty blurry and game, when it tries to finish configuration gives me a "call attendant message".

I am thinking this issue as to do with the setting on the 32" monitor (resolution) Can someone clarify what I might need to do to fix this? I had this working at one time (same monitors) but it as been a few years and can't quite remember how it was configured to work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If you don't have the top box you have to disable it in the setup. Clear again and set it up as usual but answer the top box question in the "game setup" menu with a "NO"

That should do it with or without the large top monitor in place of the 22 inch top....

Thanks for reply however there is not a prompt to disable top box in game setup. There is a disable lights and disable chair. When I disable those the bottom screen comes up with game but no top screen. I am pretty sure this as to do with the resolution of top monitor.

After looking through all my stuff I had setup in cabinet at one time (like a VGA splitter) I found my DVI Detective. I connected it and was getting 1920 X 1080 but still no image. These NEC monitors seem odd. It looks like they can display up to 1920X1080 but default to a lower resolution. I found set up instructions on line last night and will try to reset unit. I am pretty sure I had to have this device (dvi detective) connected to make top monitor work for StarTrek. Also had to have it to display Mad Men (BB3 Game) that originally had a 42" top monitor. I think that Idesign (Jeff) had referred me to this unit. The big thing at this point is I need to know what the resolution the top monitor needs to be

Yeah, the feature monitor for ST Enterprise is a weird resolution issue.  I just don't remember what it is since I've never played the game with a top screen enabled.

Ok, so I got home and fired unit up. Had game on bottom screen (like last night) but nothing on top 32 " vertical monitor. I shut everything down and plugged DVI Detective output to Monitor (32 inch top) and reset as instructions state. Turned all off, connected DVI out for BB3 CPU to input of DVI Detective then output of DVI Detective to 32" top monitor and it is now working as before.

I'm sure the DVI detective had saved the settings from before.

I had that issue on a BB2 a few weeks ago.
What I did was pull out the DVI plug from the monitor and plug it back in all the while the machine was powered up.
The monitor has worked fine ever since.

It certainly could have but I could not get it to work until I reset it. All good now at any rate

Ok top monitor seems squared around. Having another issue now. This as been happening for some time. Started every once in a while but happening more and more.

What is happening is game will be up and playing and just turn off then then start to re boot game, get most of the way loaded then turn off and re-boot again and will continue that cycle over and over. I disconnected everything on CPU pulled out cpu and re seated unit. That worked for a couple of hours then the same shut off / re-boot thing starts again.

This does not happen when I have BB2 system loaded and playing. I am thinking it's power or CPU. Any suggestions to check is greatly appreciated. I don't have another BB3 CPU to check system with.

I had that happen also, it was my aux power harness to the bb3 mpu.  Do you have one you made yourself, or an OEM harness?  I basically re-did my harness and hasn't happened since.

Now that you say that I was wondering about that. I had the cable made. It is not OEM. I am connected (BB3 CPU) to an extra BB1 power supply. Can I get an OEM for that configuration, do you know off hand? If not OEM how do I go about checking this cable if you know or possibly having another made? I never have messed with trying to make these kind cables. I suppose I can look on YouTube. I just don't want to F anything up.Thanks for the heads up Rick

OEM requires a BB2 power supply. If you are running this on a BB1 cabinet, then I would look to replacing the bb1 power supply that is driving the bb3.

This stuff can be funny (not haha). Back when it first starting showing up (not sure how long ago) I did buy another BB1 power supply. I connected it and it seemed good for sometime then started in again. I will buy another and try it again. Thank you
