WMS BB1 Screen Molex Burn
« on: July 14, 2020, 01:02:03 PM »
Hi
Just wondering what causes the screen power pigtail to heat up to the point that one wire appears to burn apart from the plug. I have seen this on a few pigtails. Is there something with the screen that is causing this or just a bad molex connection? Also I see that there are 2 different pigtails, one has a purple molex the other does not, is one better than the other?

I ask this cause I have a machine that sometimes when I turn it on, I have to wiggle the plug on the screen for the screen to lite up,. After the machine was on for a while, I felt the plug and it felt rather warm.  Just curious if this is a common thing with these machines.

The purple is the newer harness to match the purple connector on the blue backplanes.  None of my BB1 have the burn mark, but that plug is the 12volt power to the monitor.  Since the machine is on 24x7 on casino floors, it just makes sense that the power lead would get hot and thus cause the browning. My IGT G20 power supply molex plug was so brown and toasty that when I removed the power supply to refurbish the machine, the plastic on the molex plug disintegrated because it was so dried up with the heat.  I replaced the molex connector.  It is unlikely to keep getting worse in a home setting, but you could just buy the empty molex plug and remove the pins from the old connector and put them in the new one if you want to feel better about it (you will need a pin extractor tool).
