Problem with Bally 6000 Roaring 20's
« on: May 31, 2021, 12:49:33 PM »
Hi.
Need some help with my Bally 6000 Roaring 20's slot.
Previously, the machined worked fine. Then had not been played for quite a while. Battery was dead, so I replaced it, and did a Complete Ram Clear. I[/size]t came up CLC
Replaced game chips and powered up.... windows showed......
Win Payed 01. 03 (.01 was flashing)  Credit  00.3    Coin In  Blank
I pressed the win/Change button and it then showed....
Win Payed  5.0     Credit   0    Coin In   0 (bill acceptor cycled but wouldn't accept bills)
It accepted coins and played....but with no payouts, 5.0 continued to show in Win Payed window.
I opened and closed door and put a coin in... Then it went  into
the 21.1    0      0  problem
Apparently the 21 code indicated an extra coin had been put in, but that was not the case. I swapped the hopper into another machine and the hopper works fine. So, it wasn't that the extra coin couldn't be returned, if in fact, that was what happened.
Any thoughts on what is causing this problem??????

Problem with the coin comparator/optics. Error 21 extra coin in not out, so not hopper. You would get the same error if you removed the CC/optics and turn the power on. Should be a problem with the optics, or wiring. Maybe coincidental with the battery change, should not be related to the battery change. Plus I think I have cleared that error by turning the jackpot reset key and opening and closing the door a couple times?

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Thanks for your response. This machine was originally for Canadian play.
I am not sure, if I would have to replace the coin comparitor, what would be the correct one to put in. Is it the comparitor that could be the problem, or the optic board below the coin comparitor that potentially is the problem with the 21 code? I am not an electronics guy so, I don't understand which is the problem. Picture of the comparitor that is in the machine is attached.

I've seen that cc, I think I have a few too. Haven't messed with them yet so don't know anything about that model.

Because it worked before, it should work again. It sounds to me that the optics board below the CC (X10 unit) is the problem. Others have said to remove it and clean the 'optics' with a damp cloth with just water. I think it is a bad wire or connection because it worked before the battery change. Especially if didn't work and you may have messed with the CC or cables after the battery change when the error appeared. Stuff does just kind of fails, or works intermittently, usually caused by bad connections/wires.

The coin comparator does just what it sounds like - (I think this is a correct description)
It compares a sample coin to a coin (object) inserted. If it is the same size it will go to the optics for checking, if not it goes to the coin tray, rejected,  - 3 led/detector pairs A,B and C in the optics PCB 'see' the coin (object) and time it's travel. This is done to be sure the coin is actually a coin and basically not a slug or other coin.

With the '21' code the machine thinks a coin is being inserted all the time (most logical way to explain the extra coin error, could be a number of things) if 1 of the optics is bad or dirty - it could be sending a signal to the machine that it 'sees' an object all the time. Hope this explanation helps and is not too confusing.
