CAN I SWITCH FROM A 10mhz TO A 16mhz BOARD
« on: April 04, 2021, 01:07:57 PM »
I have two S+ Upright Machines: A 9inch with a 16mhz board & a 16inch with a 10mhz board. Can I run the 16mhz board in the 16inch Machine and/or the 10mhz board in the 9inch Machine? Will the 10mhz board only run with a 1271 game chip or will a 731 also work? Thank you for any help you can provide.

The 16 mg board requires a 1272 game chip instead of a 1271 for a 10 mg.
The reel chips are interchangeable.
Their are other game chips available for the 16 mg but cannot think of them off the top of my head.

Am I correct?  A 16mhz board can be used in any S+ machine provided the correct 16mhz GAME chip is installed,  ie- There is nothing in the S+ machine itself that determines the type of main board that can be installed. Thank you, your help is appreciated.

Yes you can use a 16mhz with the proper game chip. The reel chip may have to be changed depending on the speed. 120ns or faster is required for the 16mhz but sometimes 150ns will work. Do not even think about a 200ns.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

When you change the board you will get a 61 code and you follow the procedures for a game change. Other than that its pretty much plug and play.

As noted the physical chips need to be faster than what was typically used for the 10mhz board. So your reel chip (assuming IGT original) may need to be duplicated onto a faster chip. No harm in trying what you have. The game chip is going to be different as the volume controls is now in software and there is no blue wheel to change the volume.

From a home use perspective many people do not like the 16mhz boards as they hear a persistent hum caused by the higher frequency.
In a casino over top of all the other noise this is not ever noticed, but with 1 or 2 machines in a home environment you will likely notice.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.
