Just got my first IGT s2000 Slot Machine - Now for the question(s)

Hello everyone,

Michael here from Dallas TX.  I'm a new slot machine owner.  I joined the site last week and have been reading tons of posts all over the site.  Amazing amount of good info here!!! 

I purchased a Triple Double Diamond, multi-currency, 2 bet max slot machine off of ebay for $100.  It was being sold "for parts" but does light up.  I know it is missing the MPU and therefore the game chip.  Not sure if it's missing anything else.  From what I can tell, everything else (or most everything else) is there.       
I'm not sure where to start to determine if I should soak money into it or turn it into a fun $100 lamp.      For lack of better knowledge, I guess I start with buying an MPU but I see many options out there such as regular and enhanced.  I'm also not sure if any S2000 MPU works with my motherboard or if I need to look for a specific version. 

Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Additional Info:

• The machine lights up when turned on.  Can hear fan.  No other sounds or movements.
• The VFD quickly displays "Display passes self test".
• Then the VFD changes to "The Display's Netplex link is down".  I've read about these errors and resolution tips on the site but I think I need the MPU before trying to troubleshoot this.
• I need to know which chips to order.  I understand can be specific to motherboard/mpu.  I'm thinking Key 31 and Key 224.
• Model # from inside bottom left of front door is 96435800
• Motherboard model # is 2734-0B.  It is a "960 mother board".
• There are 2 boxes on the back panel that connect to the motherboard and one allows for plug - so alternative power?  The model numbers on those are 68882600 Rev A VVSZE and 68882500 Rev A.
• If I start purchasing parts, I would like to purchase parts that allow for me to change the game down the road if I decide to do so.  Want all the fun sounds that a game or machine can produce. Would like to replace all lights with LED.  Would like back lit reels. etc....

Welcome to NLG Michael!  

That's a clean looking S2000, it shouldn't be too much of a problem getting it running, there are lots of helpful folks here that are familiar with the S2000 machines. And several of them are vendors with parts for sale to make it easy for you to get what you may need.

Just a quick look at your photos and I see that there isn't a coin hopper in the lower cabinet and no coin comparitor on the inside of the door. This is because your machine does not have a coin entry on the player panel, it is setup for "no coin" play. If you wanted to convert it to coin play for fun at home I think you can do that.

Also it looks like you have a printer and a bill acceptor. So maybe you won't need too many parts to get it working.

Perhaps all you will need to get it operating is an mpu board and the software chips. But just about any S2000 part is available, so standby for helpful advice and suggestions.

Any 500 series board will work. The 504 is the best. You might be able to get a board and tray around $50 if your lucky. Open the door under the bill validator to see if it has the cash can. One of our members (IAN) might be close to you. He is in Hurst TX.

It needs a 500 series MPU for your mother board. 504 Rev B recommended since it works well with enhanced sound should you wish to use a sound SIMM in the future. IVC00224 clear & KEY00045 recommended but a Key 31 will work for most SG chips. You will need a complete set of chips along with that MPU Version VS011GX1, SG000363 GME 1 & 2, SB100059 for your current game. Your coin acceptor plug has black tape on it. Possibly an attempt to make up for the bypass plug that goes there. I would pick one up. They are cheap. I have all the chips & a bypass plug but no MPU. Let me know if I can help. Hope everything else is good. It appears to all be there except that MPU.

Another note. The Netplex message should go away when a working MPU is installed if the power supply is good & nothing else is disconnected. The bill acceptor should cycle when powered on even if the MPU is not connected.

This is the coin bypass plug that appears to be missing from your machine. It has to be in place in a coinless machine or it will not function without error.
